Even at my local TV station, editing computers were still connected to the internet.

There is nothing "incompatible" about editing and an internet connection. It's just up to you to use common sense as which sites to visit and which ones to avoid that probably carry trojans that can manifest themselves. But it's no different than protecting your computer for, say, typing Word documents. I recommend NOD32 as a virus protection program, it is very, very unobtrusive but very robust and powerful.

What makes you say they are not compatible? Are you having issues?

If you're not a moron, you can do both. I have the internet connected to all of my editing PCs. No problems, ever.

I like Paul's way of putting it. It's no big deal. Especially if you use a Mac.

Right on Evan.

To further drive my point home... who exercise a logical decision making process can run the internet, their NLE of choice, photoshop, what have you. They don't click ads for a free ipod, a free PS3, a free Wii, and they don't download Bonzi Buddy.

Other people, who stupidly click for free crap and download Bonzi Buddy and other great things that out right destroy their systems shouldn't be allowed to own a computer for any purpose, unless it's broken and they need a big ass paperweight.

With a Mac, you don't really have the opportunity because there's a really small amount of spyware and malware for the platform. With a PC, you really just have to be a little bit more cautious. Don't be a moron and your computer will function as it should.

If Premiere was a girl, I'd buy her a drink.

It's a advantage to just have a PC for editing but if you don't then its not a big problem. Just make sure you have firewalls, anti-spyware, anti-virus and the lot. Some firewalls and anti-virus apps slow your system down (Disadvantage) so find ones that dont! I agree, Mac's are great for both because of the nearly nothing against them. And P2P, STAY AWAY!! It's worse then clicking on the ****!

That sounds like more of a PC problem. Just not enough power to back up the program. And hell, I can ride a mac pro running final cut like a back ally skank until it crashes and dies if I want to. It's about knowing your computer's limits.

Now you're impugning my masculinity? I'll have you know I've got two fat gigs of muscle ready to RAM premiere. God, I may have gone too far. Sorry.

I beat you all. 4 gigs of ram, quad core Opterons, and Ppro still crashes on me like a fat lady with wings. Crashed just now, actually, after exporting my movie. But I still love it to bits. It would be an amazing program if not for its stability issues.
