I recently got a digital sony handycam and when i loaded my shots onto the computer i found they were in an MPEG-2 format.
My question is: How do you edit MPEG-2 files? is there any free software on the internet that I can use, or do I need to buy something. I just want something simple.
Thanks guys, any help would be appreciated.

If you have one of the DVD-recording cams or (though doubtful) a MicroMV cam, it should have come with software that will convert those files to AVI for you. Did you buy this new or used?

Simple answer to a simple question. Use the editing software provided or Movie Maker (Windows ). If you have any problems with that try getting MPEG Streamclip from http://www.squared5.com/, it'll work on PC and MAC!
