Hey, guys, I'm having a real pain-in-the-ass problem with my Adobe Premiere 6.5 at home. You see, for a good amount of time, my firewire and firewire card have been working just fine with our rental Panasonic AG DVC10P DV camera. But now, all of a sudden, Premiere keeps saying "The DV device is unavaliable for device control", and when I look at the settings, it says "Unable to connect to capture driver". I've tried unplugging the cable from both ends, plugging the wire in different computer ports, and restarting the computer about 10 to 15 times, and it's still persisted. But when I go to the Device Manager, it says the firewire card is working properly. Also, the camera is on "VCR" mode. What should I do? I really want this problem fixed tonight or I'll have to do a hell of a lot more work tomorrow.

i'm assuming since you are using premiere 6.5 that it is likely that you are using windows, most likely XP. If so, does windows recoqnize the device when you connect it? if windows is set up normally it will make a chime to let you know it is connected. If the pc doesnt recognize it, the problem doesnt lie in the software set up. You can double check this by looking under my computer when you connect it, it will show up. Photoshop 7 allows for capture from a camcorder, you can test it there as well. write back and let us know what you find out and we will go from there.
By the way, for the record, a firewire card working correctly in the device manager doesnt mean squat. I've seen XP lose contact with devices before that are working properly. You could try removing the card, restart/shutdown, and put it back in again. this would force windows to reinstate the firewire card properly if it isnt the way it should be. Have you tried using a different cable or plugging the cam into another comp with a firewire port?
