I have just finished my first short film and i am having problems with the audio
The levels are not to bad but on some i have hissing and some hum on the others (the mixer is knackered)...

What would be the best way to deal with this ??
is there a decent piece of software that i could use soundforge would be great but is only for the p.c and damn expensive

Any ideas much appreciated

There are plenty of utilities designed for this purpose alone for the (relatively) low price of about £20-£30 ($30-$50 I think). You can also get software that does the same job for free, but you'd need to be careful with those.

Are you looking specifically for Mac software?

have you tried EQing the hum out? That's what I always try first.

soundsoap is a pretty good app. It comes as a stand alone and a VST and retails for 100-150 depending on if you need the 'pro' version. I don't know of any products in the $30-50 range. They all start at 100 and go up from there. Ray Gun and Ionizer are good products from www.arboretum.com (I'm a big ionizer fan). And Waves Restoration bundle is at the top of the heap in terms of software base, noise reducing plugins/software.

Is it a lot of audio tracks with the hum? You might be able to recruit someone who already has the tools to help you.

Well, he said that most of the ones he'd looked at were expensive, so I was thinking as cheaply as possible (i.e. the consumer market). Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the specific piece of software I'm thinking of.

yea, def try EQ'ing it out. if it is a really low hum you could just high pass filter it out if its a dialogue section, otherwise try notching it.
