As the title says, I'm building my own PC to edit on. I will be using the Adobe Video Collection Professional edition. Here are my specs. Motherboard: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz CPU Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600XT RAM: 1 gig of Crucial Memory PC3200 DDR400 System Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar WD800BB 80 GB Hard Drive Capturing Video Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1600JD 160 GB Hard Drive Editing Hard Drive: Western Digital WD1600JD 160 GB Hard Drive Case: Chieftec Dragon DX-01GND Mid-tower ATX Case w/ 400W PS Optical Drive: Lite-On SOHW-832S Double Layer DVD Burner
Now I have a couple of questions. #1. The system drive is ATA 100, and I know there's a hookup for that, but the other two drives are SATA, so, will the motherboard automatically put them into a RAID array. I don't want a RAID array at all. If the mobo would put the two drives in a RAID array, then would using an SATA controller card, which I can hook up two HDs to, and it only has one hookup to the mobo work? To sum this question all up. What do I have to do with my hard drives to not have a RAID array?
#2. Does the ATI Radeon 9600XT support dual monitors?
#3. Last Question. Do you think I should go with a different case that doesn't have a power supply, and buy a separate power supply, or am I okay with the one I have? (note: if I bought a different case, it would be identical to the case listed above, just without the power supply)
#1: I have a gigabyte board and raid came as the standard on it. To disable it I had to go into bios and turn off the raid setting, some boards also have a switch/jumper on the board itself that needs to be flipped to disable the raid function. Im not sure about the SATA card though.
#2 the specs for the 9600TX says it supports dual monitor (one vga and one dvi port). I have a geforce 5900, and the dual monitor on that works pretty good, can be a little buggy at times.
#3 I don't know why you would buy the case w/o a power supply unless you can buy them cheaper seperately. It depends on how much stuff you are gonna cram in the case, but 400 should be ok. I only have a 350psu and my comp runs fine.
