I have a Sony Camera with an external microphone. I use it on a boom or just mounted on the cameras accessory shoe. It sounds great when I play back what I shot through composite RCA jacks, but when I transfer it over to my computer with a FireWire cord, the sound is "fuzzy" and the treble sounds high for some reason? I dont know if there is a problem with my firewire or the format I am capturing with or something, but I can't seem to figure it out. If anyone else has solved this problem before, please help me out.

I've had all sorts of sound problems... I don't know how you both are capturing, but they sound like capture problems. Make sure the sampling rate is consistent from the camera to the timeline (normally 48 khz, 16 bit).
Prez, make sure your NLE is set to capture both Audio and Video. Then, are you sure you're recording sound? Check the pots on the side of your XL-1 or turn AGC on.
6+, if you output to tape and then listen on the RCAs, does it still sound poor? If it sounds okay, I'd say there's a problem with the way you are monitoring the sound on your NLE.
