I just got my new Apple Powermac G5 1.8GHZ and am loving it so far. I am new to the Apple world and am hoping I can get some good info and maybe some sites from existing members of the Mac community. I can't wait for FCP4. Thanx to all who respond.

welcome. I hope you enjoy your macs as much as I've enjoyed mine (my first apple was an Apple IIe circa 1985--before the first Macintosh). I'm jealous. That's a sweet computer you got, there.

What kind of web sites are you looking for? Here's to get you started:
General
www.macworld.com
www.mac-watch.com
www.applelinks.com
www.versiontracker.com

Video editing and FCP
www.2-pop.com -check out the forums
www.creativecow.net -good forums and articles
www.kenstone.net
www.lafcpug.org

and of course www.apple.com has great resources and links to other great websites for just about everything. You gotta dig a little deep, sometimes.

Thanx for the links and support guys. I am thrilled with this computer and am just loving the features. It's really funny, I grew up with macs as a kid in school, and then made the transition to pc's, and here I am again with macs. It's a shame that I couldn't get FCP4 at the mac store in the mall along with my computer and monitor. It was there, but they couldn't give me the educational discount in the store, it can only be done online. Oh well, the only thing I'm really disappointed in is the fact that I may very well have wasted 10 years of being with pcs...

Yes, that's a nice editing system.

It was the other way around for me.

I started with the Mac and then switched to the PC.

For me, either one will work as long as the setup is done correctly.

I currently have three video workstations built around ULEAD's MediaStudio Pro 7.01 application, which scored a nice review in VIDEOMAKER MAGAZINE's new September issue:

You probably didn't - in reality - waste time on the PC platform.

You probably learned what you liked and what you didn't like about it and - that alone - was valuable to you in making a final decision.

Nothing really is a waste of time. Many are just painful lessons, and sometimes are repeated, too many times...

I'm really jealous of the 2gig G5s.

My dual gig G4 is pretty fast though. Can't complain. It rips through Xpress Pro. I can't imagine what the dual G5 would be like.
