For the past few weeeks or so I've been having problems capturing the audio from my DV footage. The video captures fine, but the audio skips and sounds horrible. The audio plays back great on the camera itself, but once I play it back on the computer, it gets screwey. At first I thought it might be a problem with Vegas, but I tryed playing back on another capturing program and the same thing happened. It's happened with different tapes, so it not a bad tape. I tryed running a head cleaner through, but it did nothing. Paul suggested that I try importing with another camera, so I'll get to that asap. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

That is deffenately a hardware problem. Either your camera or in your computer. It could be a few things. To isolate the problem capture it on another camera AND capture it onto another system.
Try a different cable too. Also try all yoru fire wire ports. That should tell you exactly what's going on.

Ok, so I just tryed switching the firewire to the other two ports, and nothing changed. I'm thinking the problem is with the firwire itself. I just imported with my old USB1 cable. The video quality was horrible, but the audio captured fine...

It could be any number of things, since theres various components. it could be:

tape
firewire wire
camera
maybe firewire port in the computer

i hope you figure it out.

If two ports didnt work it isnt very likely both are broken. So i think it is the fire wire port on the camera that is causing the problem. Or the cable it self.

Just tryed a new firewire cable, and the audio is still skipping, so obviously not the wire. I guess I'll have to get a hold of another digital camera and see if its the firewire port on the camera. Thanks guys.

I was going to suggest plugging it into another port, but I guess that's out of the window.
