ok so heres the deal...I made a cartoon on photoshop by moving the pic a bit, saving it as a JPEG moving the photoshop pic a bit more then save as another JPEG...so basiclly i do it frame by frame and save all the JPEGS...then i put em together in UNLEAD gif program, and save em out as avi's. ok so now i have like 50 avi's, each avi a different shot...so heres where the problems start...i import the avi's in Premiere Pro and edit...the problem...exporting the movie... no matter what i do the file comes out HUGGGGGE like WAY TO HUGE...it comes out 3.7MB per second...so im trying to make a 15 minute cartoon...and obviously i cant have 12321MB file in the end...so someone PLEASE PLEASE explain in detail what i need to do as far changing settings of export screen or anything...im not SUPER well versed in premiere as far as any real tech stuff goes... please help. thanks in advance. -brendon

3.4MB per second is the standard for TV quality DV footage. I'm not sure why you're getting 3.7MB, but that's not too far off.

yup nothing unusual there. Expect roughly about 1.25-1.5 gig for every 5 minutes. A 15 minute film will end up being 4-5 gigs. That is standard for a 720x480 NTSC export. Unless you want to publish to the web you will have to export at that size to view it on a dvd or TV.

lol yeah i know that much i just dont know what the best settings for a small file size with decent qual is...like on ghetto windows movie maker the file comes out small as hell and the pic quality is perfect fullscreen...that seems almost impossible on premiere.

Ahhhh ok, I get ya. It's hard to get good quality looking films online unless you have access to a streaming service or server (streaming meaning loading as it plays...im sure you knew that) otherwise you get alot of nasty load times or crappy looking footage. SO what I have done for my filmsn is this:

Export the movie as a .mov file at 320x240 (good medium size). Then I put it into Macromedia Flash, add a loader, and then export as an .swf file. The films are at the same quality but SOOOO much smaller. A 10 minute film ends up being about 45mb when it is usually 2.75gb! Thats about 60x smaller at the same quality. Check them out at my website:

http://www.vppictures.com/shorts. Just click the "watch" links under the titles.

If you dont have flash or the means of making a loader I would recomend exporting as an AVI at that size. But it will probibly still be too big. I found another solution recently. What I did is make a video podcast of my films. This enables people to stream, download, and watch your movies for free through iTunes as an m4a file. I am even listed in the iTunes music store now. Just search for Dom Ricco or Vanishing Point Pictures and bang you can watch all of them at a click.

Hope that helps. Video on the web is a *****. And by ***** I really mean ***** in the simple terms of stating it is a ***.
