try a different cable. Try also plugging your camera in right after it detects the other camera & see if it's there.

Make sure the camera is on, there's a tape inside, the tape deck is shut, and it's turned to play. If all else fails, why not just borrow your mom's firewire?

My old computer didn't have firewire either, so I bought a card for 15 bucks at radio shack. If your mom's firewire is via a removable card like mine is, why not just take apart the tower, and borrow it for a few uploads?

Some newer VCRs now have S-Video. If you have a video card with AV input jacks, you could run your camera through your vcr to your computer, thought the camera (and possibly the vcr) may require pass through technology.

I doubt it would be the settings. So long as the camera is on and set to play, your computer should recognize it. Your firewire cable might be the problem, maybe invest in a better one. I paid sixty bucks for mine, gimmick or not (it's coated in gold. Needed? I doubt it) and it's never failed me once.

I've made a post for you at the Digital Information Network. It's a site funkbomb mentioned a while ago, and it's full of professionals and experts in the field. Someone there should be able to help you pretty soon.

it started off working in all my editing programs on 1 computer, then premiere stopped working but pinnacle still worked, now nothing does.

anyone know something i could try to get my computer to detect this stuff?

You're cursed, buy a voodoo doll. Or it's still the cord, I don't think you can upload footage to your computer any other way than firewire unless you have a video card with certain ports.

I had that same problem, amidst many others, a few months ago. I, not knowing much about computers, decided to clear the computer and start all over, and it worked. Don't know if that's the solution though.
