O.K., heres the deal. im borrowing my friend VX2000 to import some footege onto my comuter via FCP3. so i connect the camera using my firewire but FCP say that it cant detect any firewire devices. so i open up I-movie to see if i have the same problem and of course, i do. to make sure it wasnt just the VX2000, i hooked my DV8 camera up and i got the same problem. to make sure it wasnt the cord i went out and bought a new FireWire cable, but i still have the same problem. and my firewire ports arnt broken on my G4 since i am able to use my ipod via firewire. so what im trying to say is PLEASE HELP! im going insane over this and i wont be able to get any sleep til its fixed. ANYTHING WILL HELP, Fab 4 Films fab4films@yahoo.com

did you try it on both your FW ports? On one computer I had one of the ports go bad and had to replace the logic board. Try unplugging your iPod cradle and using that port to plug in the camcorder.
yeah i have tryed both ports (both of them dont work with my camera but both work with my ipod). and i dont own a firewire drive so thats out of the question. also ive been looking on apple for help but i havent seen anything that has helped. PLEASE KEEPON HELPING Fab 4 Flims

have you successfully dumped video from either camcorder before? I know this is a simple part of the process but you do have the camcorder set to vtr mode correct?
3. reinstall FCP and/or imovie (do a clean install so any drivers/helpers are replaced).
4. update to latest OS
5. see if any other app can recognize the camera (like iChatAV)
6. And, as a last resort you can always do a clean install of the OS (after backing up all your files, of course) If it's a software thing, this'll probably fix it. But this is also the biggest pain in the ass.
