if your budget is only 3 grand i say your better off getting the imac with the 17inch flat panel monitor and you should upgrade to 526mb of ram. This will run u a little over 2 thousand it comes with superdrive and you already have a monitor so you don't have to worry about buying one. The imovie software is not that bad depending on what you plan on shooting but fcp really kicks ass.
