I have a noob question:

Are there Mini DV tapes that go longer than 60 minutes? I figured there were somewhere but I always just see the 60. The thing is, I'm going to make a movie longer than an hour (maybe) and I need to transfer it to a tape in one shot. I obviously don't want to lose quality by switching to long play, so is there anyway I can get a movie shot in MiniDV to the same format tape while still retaining the quality?

I actually have some panasonics I believe that are 80 minutes in sp mode. Those are the only I've seen and I'm not sure were you pick them up.

Try a google/ebay search on it.

Panasonic Pro carries an 83 minute mini dv master tape.

If I were you, I'd stay away from those. The 83 minute tapes are longer, but the magnetic tape (in the MiniDV) is constructed different; it's more thin. Consequently, the tape doesn't last as long, and the more you rewind/ff it, the more the video will drop out on you. Trust me, I used those tapes before and they're nothing but trouble.

I'm so annoyed with dv right now. i hate how they get blurry when your editing on your computer. I don't know if it is the tape or my camcorder really. My jvc dv camcorder is going out the window. Okay. I'm sure that the tape BenSmerglia metioned would work for that, since you only need to play it that once or twice.
