Here are a few photos and a video from a recent shoot. they are all way too big for the web, but I'm in the process of doing a clean install on my computers and don't have any compression apps handy. Check out the video ... it's pretty wild.
This is for a car commercial. It was shot in Moab, Utah on the edge of a 600 foot cliff. We built part of a house and front yard (the rest of the house will be composited in post). The crane is called a super-techno crane and weighs as much as a car and costs almost a million dollars (without the head). The head on the crane is called a "levhead". It will revolutionize how car chases are done. It was used in 'Batman begins' and they were able to keep up with the batmobile going speeds in excess of 110mph with the camera being incredibly steady. The secret is a set of gyros in the head itself. And Lev of the levhead (who is a very nice Russian man) was there to operate his head (both mounted on the techno crane and on one of the helicopters).
Enough words. It was a great shoot. Extreme filmmaking to the max. enjoy.
lol, no. I really don't have a desire to leap off a perfectly good cliff. ... or airplane. Our jump crew were some of the best base jumpers in the country (well, world ... one guy was from Sweeden). Plus, I'm a little afraid of heights. Just working on the set that close to the edge was daunting at first. I was tethered with a climbing harness for a lot of the build as I had to stand (and work) inches from the edge.
