I thought it was clear, but guess not.

Does one need to follow every joke (good or bad) with "lol" "jk" and stuff like that so that people (in their best spirit) don't mistake my playing dumb for actually being dumb?

I think the last shot from GODFATHER was Diane Keaton. This shot looks like an old TWIGHLIGHT ZONE or something similar.
