I keep forgetting that 75% of the people here are teenagers or young adults in college. Hence student. When you're not making cinematic genious, I know you're all partying.

Well, I only went to three parties last semester, hahaha...I do have one interesting story, though.

Around Halloween, my girlfriend and I decided to go to a party that was being thrown by some of her friends at work. There was just one problem, however...it was a half-hour away from campus, and neither of us had a car. So I whipped out my cell phone, and called my best friend, Brendan (now deceased due a car accident, unfortunately) to give us a ride to the party. He showed up within 10 minutes, with another friend in tow, and we drove down to the party. Before we left, I asked him if he was planning on bringing us back to campus when we were done...he was very sketchy about his reply, and mentioned something about another party he wanted to go to, and then drove off. I pushed it out of my head, naively assuming he would come through, and went to the party.

A few hours later, a thought pops into my now extremely hazy consciousness...I should call my friend to make sure he can pick us up. So I call him, and guess what? Him and his friend went to the party, and are too drunk to pick us up. Terrific. He offered to drive drunk to pick me up, but, of course, I angrily hung up the phone. I start to worry, and try calling some other friends in my fairly short speed dial list, but nobody is avaliable at that time of night. At this point, my girlfriend is very concerned, and says she is now hesitant about trusting my friends ever again...she also refuses to get a ride back with my parents, as she doesn't want them to meet her drunk. At this point, I am in nightmareville.

Then, some sorta good news occurs...my girlfriend finds her own ride home, and now it's just me who needs to find somebody to drive him back. I'm too shy to ask all the strangers I don't know if I can get a ride, so I swallow my pride...and call my parents. The problem is, by this point, I'm too drunk/stoned to give them good directions, so they end up getting lost and panicked as I try futilely to articulate which roads to take. But eventually, they found me, standing outside the house freezing my ass off, and it's all over.

Tough situation, yes...but it could have been much worse. One, my parents said they were proud of me for using such good judgment and responsibility. Two, they didn't know I was stoned...they knew I was on SOMETHING, but they did not suspect I was stoned, haha. Three, I discouraged my now-deceased best friend from driving drunk to pick me up...thank God, even in my hazy frame of mind, I had the common sense to turn down THAT little offer, because I would have hated for him to die that way instead...

Moral of the story? Make sure you can always count on your friends or loved ones in times of danger, crisis, or partying.

Why didn't you just call a cab?

1. I obviously didn't know any cab company numbers at that time.

2. I doubt there is much cab service in rural Connecticut.

3. I didn't have any money on me.

No worries, I was just kidding. Sorry to hear about your friend, by the way.

Most film people I know aren't partying. I'm usually not. My peers aren't. We tend to be squirreled away watching movies most of the time, or writing scripts, or editing. Some days I'll get bored and read my friend's away messages, and I'll get 9 people that are all "EDITING."

Yeah, same story here. When I visited my school, the guide said that everyone in the film program is too busy with film stuff to party. Just the way I like it.

How do you guys get ideas for films if you don't party all the time? Fun is the only thing that inspires me.

I have never been to a college party. I'm way too anti-social and nerdy.

I agree with this. You're all a buncha damn losers. You all should be livin it up while you're still young in the prime of your youth.
I'm pretty anti-social+nerdy too but that doesn't stop me from boozin, gettin in drunken brawls, and gettin on sluts. Filmmakers=great potential to get laid. Use your filmmaker status to your advantage.

No no... I'm saying that using our filmmaker status doesn't work at film school. Everyone's used to us for miles around.

lol no i really don't party that much either...at least not big partying....

I'm not sure how it'll be in college, but as of now I'm partying plenty. There's definetly room for both.

Haha. Good to see I'm not the only anti-social recluse here. I occasionaly go out and have a few drinks, but for the most part I'd rather be writing/editing/watching films/browsing this site.
A few months back we had an after-party for a theatre show we'd just finished. I stayed home and watched "Creature from the Black Lagoon."

I love filmmakers.
