I just got back from a couple weeks of vacation. Sorry for the inconvience if any of you needed moderating. Wink

Anyway, for the first week I visited Acuna, Mexico, which is probably the poorest place that I, personally, have witnessed. Then I went directly to Kiawah Island in South Carolina, which is quite possibly the most beautiful place place that I, personally, have witnessed. It was quite a contrast, but nonetheless, I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

What I'd like to know is, what are your favorite places to go on vacation?

I'm in LA for the next few days, so if anyone wants to do any assassination attempts on me, you know where I'll be.

And I'm going to Santa Cruz in a few weeks with my friends to party for like 4 days.

My favorite vacation recently has been the town of Playa Del Carmen, located on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It's got great beaches and great food and is only a short boat ride from Cozumel, which has some of the best diving in the world. I've been going there every winter for the past few years, and it is an amazing place.

As a soccer coach for 25 years (now semi-retired from that vocation), I've been all over the world - Spain, Denmark, Germany, Austria - and all over the US.

That said, I would have to say my most favorite vacation was a seven-day cruise to St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Johns, etc. Not so much because of the islands - most were too "touristy" as they had people bombard you as soon as you got off the ship, trying to sell you their crap, er I mean fine souveniers.

But the cruise itself was great. You check your luggage at the airport and it's sitting in front of your cabin door when you get on board the ship. Meals are are included in the price (alcohol not included), and if you have a propensity for drinking alcohol, they always have a drink special so you won't go broke!

There are two pools on the ship, several bars, a movie theatre and a nice sized casino. There was no sea sickness involved (as I've been known to get), and despite there being nearly 2000 people on one ship, it was never hard to find solitude (which I like!).

Gee, I sound like a putzy travel agent. Wink

What kind of soccer did you coach (what age groups and teams, that is)?

I coached mostly club soccer between the ages of U12 and U16 with a couple of high school teams thrown in for extra cash! But the majority of the talent comes from the club system.

I had teams that won a couple of State Championships and took a third place at Regional competition, while other teams made it to the State Finals nine times. The hardest State Championship match I lost as a coach was a game we were up 2-0 with 18 minutes left when the other team scored 3 goals in those last 18 minutes to win the game.

I remember very little details after coaching hundreds (thousands) of matches, but that one is like yesterday!

That team was snake-bit. We lost one State Championship by a score of 5-0. The next year, we beat that same team in the semis 5-0 to advance against a team we had never lost to, only to lose 4-3 in the final. Snake bit!
