Just wanted to say that I got a Wii over the weekend and I have been having a blast with it.

Wii Sports is a lot of fun - especially boxing where you get to pummel your friends. Tennis is alot of fun too.

Haven't had a chance to play Zelda yet though.

Zelda is kickass. Happened to play at a friend's house yesterday. The controls remind me a lot of "wax on, wax off."

I love my Wii, it is so much better than anything out there right now, it just makes you feel so much more into the games. It also has a lot of room to expand and grow, which I like a lot.

I think Nintendo is going in the right direction with the Wii, but how can anyone be concerned with that when Final Fantasy XII has been out for only three weeks? Finished already? Wink

I know this might be sacrilege to some people but I've never been into Final Fantasy...not since the first version on the NES. (which I hope they release on the virtual console - along with Dragon Warriro on the NES)

People who were dumb enough to blow several hundred on a 360 and can't find any quality games, like Final Fantasy, the MGS series, Gran Turismo, etc. Wink

FF has come a long, long way since the NES days. Until XII the basic gameplay was somewhat similar but the paradigm has significantly changed now.

I have just seen the 360 (streaming music to replace the in-game score off of a nearby laptop) and it is pretty sweet. Now I just need to see the Wii.

Gears of War is awesome. It being a high quality game is not up for opinion, it is fact.

As far as Wii goes, Im def happy I decided to go on my last minute odyssey for one at 4 in the morning on sunday after I got home from the bar. Its a lot of fun, especially multiplayer.

However I still feel, for a serious gamer, it doesn't hold up as an independant system and you still need to own a 360 or Ps3.

The motion sensor stuff is a lot of fun and great for multiplayer, but it still feels gimmicky in my opinion in certain games. (namely zelda)

I haven't played it, but I'm not sure how you can define something as inherently subjective as "quality" as "fact." My earlier post was referring to the fact that a succession of overrated and dumbed-down American games (mostly for Xbox and 360, although occasionally for PS2, and very, very rarely GC) receive high scores from the press here but are virtually ignored abroad. Contrast that to the best games from Japan that are almost universally critically and commercially successful in the US and Europe (GT series, FF, MGS, etc.) It's been a long time since I've played an American-developed game that I thought was good and didn't make any annoying concessions to the target audience. You can even see it in something like the Grand Theft Auto games, which are not US-developed per se - a lot of the polish and precision that you expect in higher-end Japanese games is utterly absent, despite that series' reputation as a very popular and successful game. My point is simply that 'A-list' here does not necessarily mean the same thing as in Japan, the effective birthplace of modern console gaming Wink

Yeah, the Wii seems like it would be great for parties and things like that. But what happens when you just want to sit down, zone out and just push buttons?

(Also, Splinter Cell: Double Agent rocks the house! As well as Guitar Hero II Smile)

I don't think of "quality" as a subjective term. I guess philosophically everything is subjective. But in a practical sense, whether you enjoy something or not, its usually pretty apparant whether it is a quality product or not.

Whether it is of your taste or not is a matter of opinion. But if you were to play through the game you'd find that its very well crafted and delivers exactly what it promises.

The game works so well on so many different levels. I could explain but thats really not the point of this thread. However, if you would like me to go further into detail I am willing to back up my statements with specific examples.

You might have a valid and strong point there. However the statement you made that refferences that point was directed to a statement specifically dealing with Gears of War...a game in which you admitted having never played.

I see what you're saying and I can agree to a certain extent. Particularly with GTA, there were some definate issues with each game.

However on the other end I think its hard to say that despite its lack of polish in certain areas, the GTA games are not a quality product. Especially when you consider the last main installment, San Andreas.

GTA games, if it is your taste, provide a highly immersive and satisfying experience that last for quite sometime and has a high replay value.

Theres a reason so many video games mimmicked its format afterwards. The bottom line is it was just a very fun and immersive game. And unless it just wasn't your kind of game, its hard not to enjoy the gta games.

Video games will be better when they're no longer being made by virgins. Until then Final Fantasy will make geeks drool and I'll keep watching movies on my ps2.

Gears of War is an AMAZING game, from what I've played. I played about 2 hours of co-op with a friend of mine, and was blown away. The game looks amazing (even though we weren't playing in hd), beautiful detail in the textures, lighting, modeling, everything. I loved how the game had a really cool cover system, but it was still really easy to control and get into. Laying down covering fire on a turret while my friend snuck around and chainsawed the guy was just cool as hell.

On topic, I still need to play a Wii.

Theres def hot girls out there that play video games. From my experience they also tend to be freaks in bed. You just need to find yourself a g/f like that.

I find GTA enjoyable, but at the same time I'm not sure it's a "quality" game. With each new release (SA included, although that lasted longer than the others) I 'rediscovered' that it was fun, etc. but the mission structure and save system are amazingly frustrating.. don't think I got more than halfway through any of them.

Such wisdom. Does this apply to the ladies who are into air hockey? Plus I think if my girl was into video games that would make me a geek by association.

I said games will be better when they are no longer being MADE by virgins. I live in Silicon Valley, have a buddy who works at EA in redwood city and let me tell ya, Game developers are just high functioning autistic lepers.

Game design and theory continues to develop and in the mean time some real personalities with some actual life experience will start creating these games and we won't have to play games where we are elves throwing sh*t at dragons.

Whats frustrating about the save system? That you have to go to a save point to do so? Or that you can't save during a mission?
