I read an article describing how a large group of Ugandan HS/College students met with their Queen to promote abstinence. A good group with a good message, in my opinion, but some of what they said shows the much varied cultures in the world!
[Quote] Jimmy Bosco, a Ugandan activist for True Love Waits, said premarital sex was forbidden in traditional African cultures.
"Some girls who messed around would even be thrown to wild animals, or their parents fined many goats," he told Reuters.
He said they should abstain from sex now, keeping their "valuables" until later, when they would enjoy it more.
"You know what it is like when you eat a young, unripe mango?" he asked. "That's right. It is very, very bitter." [End Quotes]
I think the fine of "many goats" is too rough. The wild animals should be suffice. I also like the term "valuables". Though I've never used it like that, it seems to fit. And, I can safely say that I've never equated sex to a "young, unripe mango"!
Very, very interesting comparisons!

In many African cultures, women get screwed. Like how it is culturally acceptable for the working men that travel from their villages to the cities to solicit prostitutes while they're away from their wives. And the whole female genital mutilation situation is just shocking. In this case, I wouldn't imagine the guys and their parents won't have any repercussions.
Mark, would you cite that article? I'm not questioning it's validity, I'd just like to read it.
