I'm at a community college now, decided to earn some extra cash. So I started filming an individual player on a girls lacrosse team, in total the deal would get me about 800 dolars at the end of the season. Money that would go toward my new camera and film this summer. Turns out on Saturday she tore her ACL and is out for the year... at best I'll make around 100 bucks for what I've done so far. I'm not upset cause I'm not going to make the full 800 but I just really want my new camera... I tend to rub bad luck on to people.
It makes for a better documentary, if u make it about her recovery, what she and her team goes through, but i guess seeing as you were just in it for the $700 you won't see how much more interesting this circumstance is to making a good doc about the sports subject and the world revolving around it, the highs, lows and expectations and demands. I think you're missing out, and on a lot more that the money.
Keeping to a contract in that situation would be an jerk thing to do. Money is nice, and so are cameras, but I agree with M. Night. I'd, personally, feel like I was stealing.

yeah, there team was only two games into the season. I'll be paid for what I've done and will more than likely be paid for a highlight film that I will somehowe create from two games.

It's not stealing and it's not a jerk thing to do, because the circumstances for cutting the job short were entirely beyond his control. It's nice that you're morally against it, but business is about making money, not being a nice guy. I don't like it any more than you do, but that's reality.
on this scale it would be morally irresponsable to make that person pay out the remainder of the deal. Not to mention pissing off a girls lacrosse team when you still have to function within the culture at the community college would be a monumental bad move!
Plus being a d*ck and demanding the money now might get you $700 but I bet down the road it would catch up. You meet people twice, once on the way up and once on the way down.
And remember When god gives you lemons, toss them at the sky and curse your grandmothers loins for spawning such an unlucky bastard! It goes something like that.

A good reputation is worth much more than $700. And yes I know the best reputation in the world may not give you a single cent towards buying your camera, but if you make the women's lacrosse team angry (or women in general)things will not be pretty.
