hey, im working on my companys wedsite right now and have a decent template up right now. Could you go there and tell me what you like, dislike, and what you think would make it more eye catching? thank you. The logo you see is also going to change....we just havent came up with one yet.
I'd do something about the single radial gradient, from an asthetic standpoint at least. Otherwise looks easy to navigate and large text which always a plus.

are you going to put anything in that big chunk of blue on the left? if not i'd shorten that to the same length as the other side, and make your logo smaller and put it above the link bar. Agree with Grimlock on the gradient. Generally webpages are designed for a resolution of about 800x600, so people with any res. can view them. You might want to make it smaller. Is the page itself going to be an image map, or is that template.jpg just to show what it will look like in the end? If you're going to go with a large image on your front page , mine as well theme it, like a giant piece of note paper, or a picture representing your company. Check out www.coolhomepages.com they have tons of sites to look at, most are advanced but you might get ideas.
essentially i agree with everything said above. i just wanted to point out that if the template is 800x600 then it is too big for an 800x600 monitor. because the edges of the windows, and the browser interface occupy a good deal of space.
anyway, it's not bad the way it is - but i'd recommend a background outside the text area of some sort. and it looks like a fixed page size - so make sure you can fit all your content in. there's nothing more irritating than discovering you can't fit a few lines of text or an image onto a page because the content area is a fixed size.
good luck

you might want to look into Microsoft Frontpage (beginners) or macromedia dreamwever (little more advanced, has a learning curve) these tools can help you develop a site much more easily than hand coding. If you're already using one then NM! and good luck.
do not use frontpage! it produces what is called bloated code. it's really terrible. dreamweaver is not bad. i personally use pagespinnr, so essentially i work in code all the time. but i'd like to try dreamweaver.
also, erik, if you want to get some good quality textures and photos and things check out istockphoto.com - royalty free images for fifty cents. i made this site with iStock images (and earned $1000 )

i talk to lots of coders and they love it too. and you can flip between different views at any time. anyways, the best way to find out, is to go check it out yourself...
