I haven't seen the movie, but if you wanted to read alot of reviews from people who aren't critics try looking on the forums on it's imdb page. Good luck with your thesis, by the way.

Went to a free screening a week before it came out. Half the audience left before the end of the movie.

A thesis on Oliver Stone's "Alexander"?!

What's it called, "White Elephants: Failed marketing strategies of early 21st century film epics"? Wink

IT's called "New Concept", picking a dud to play an action star or perhaps let's try to show everyone how one of the greatest leaders in the history of mankind was gay.

Grr, I was doubly irked since I'm named after Alexander the Great, and here they go and mess up his movie.

I didn't get to see it until it came out on DVD, and tried to give Stone the benefit of the doubt despite hearinng all the bad reviews for it. I liked the first 20 minutes of the film, which basically were great. However beyond that the film just dives into this whole narrative mess. I think the best way of clarifying this is when Alexander kills the guy his father says is always loyal. When this happened my fiance asked me who it was he just killed and I wasn't even sure who it was, let alone why I cared. It just didn't work as a story. And that's not even addressing the problems with acting, etc.

Alexander was a decent film - but there were a whole lot of bits and bobs that rubbed the American audience the wrong way.

There was a part I thought was AWESOME!!!!111!!1!!1!!11! When he's giving the speech to his men, and camera pans to a blank sky, and there's no visual queue to suggest we are moving until we see the bird!!

Okay - enough with exclamation marks! But that did it for me. I can't quite justify it contextually, but I've never seen something like that before.
