What is the best way to shoot a play. I have two cameras so I was thinking a wide camera and then a close-up. Is that the best way to go? Thanks

If you have only one operator, go for a wide that covers the whole stage (as close as you can get without losing anything) and an operated camera that varies between medium-wide and medium-close depending on the action. If you can catch a rehearsal or earlier show, to be prepared for what to follow, that would be good too. Good luck. Coving plays is really hard.

What I would recommend to you is to have a wide camera that is stationary and always covers the entire stage and then have a close up camera that someone is moving. I am the lead in our play, so naturally I cannot film it, but we use my equipment and the first night I have it record from the top and have it sho you can see the entire stage and it is also plugged into the sounds system so that you get what is coming from the mics and pit, the second night my dad films because he will have seen the show to know how it flows and such. It really depends on your auditorium and your equipment though, like I have a Sony HDR-Z1U and so the far away shots you can still se faces and such, so you can get away with having it be stationary esp. for ensamble/big number scenes. It also depends on your play and how big the cast is to tell you how you should do it.

OOoohhhh. Be careful shooting on two nights. I had to edit a play like that (three cams, two on one night, one on another) and it was hell.
