the music on the ipod was not published legally or something and when you update the firmware it sent a message or something to apple. I don't know if its true or not but thats what I've be informed about.

This is impossible both technically and legally. Apple's privacy policy clearly states this information isn't transmitted to them, and there's absolutely no way they can tell whether a certain mp3 came from a legitimately ripped CD or BitTorrent. If I rip a CD for myself, then send it to someone via Kazaa, it's the exact same file bit for bit. There is no "illegal publishing" of mp3s...that doesn't even make any sense. You were informed very incorrectly my friend.

BitTorrent is safe to use, I have many friends who choose to use it over limewire, zazaa and other P2P programs. Probably less viruses, but you should check for them before you download if you are worried about your computer being damaged in any way. Just keep and eye out for currupted files, and you should be fine.
