I gave in and purchased a Macbook, it's definitely a great purchase. I dual boot of course, since I'm not going to re-buy Photoshop and they don't make Vegas on OSX, but regardless, the processor screams in it.

I picked up the 13 inch, 2 ghz model, 512 megs of ram, and a 60 gig hard drive. I'll probably sink a gig of ram into there eventually, but 512 works perfectly with all of my software as of now. 60 gigs is small, but I use externals all of the time, so my hard drive only has software on it. No worries there.

I highly recommend buying one if you're a PC or a Mac person. With OSX, you get Garage Band and the Photobooth/iSight camera, and with Windows you can do whatever you do if you use Windows.

I would totally recommend the extra gig of ram. My Powerbook turned from awesome to greased-lightning when I did that.

Honestly, I don't need it for anything yet. I loaded a music video project with massive cuts, tons of effects, lots of layer work, etc. Scrubbing through the tracks worked well, the preview played flawlessly.

Sonar was the same thing. I loaded a song I recorded with drums, guitar, bass, lead guitar, and 13 different synths ranging from bells, strings, horns, etc. It played flawlessly.

If it comes to throwing another 512 in, I'll do it, but at this point I don't see it happening for the next few months.

They may well have done things which make that extra ram less necessary. Mine was getting bogged down in PS or FCP, or just by having 15 programs open (I know, I'm nuts) fairly easily. I'm willing to bet the Intel systems are less ram dependent.

What's so great about a Powerbook? I heard it's good for video, don't know the full detail. It might be on my to get list if it was in Windows and I knew the price range.

They're replaced by the Macbook, which Windows can be loaded on. I'm in the same boat. I'd probably never buy myself a Mac if I couldn't dual boot. Now I can, so I spent some green and purchased the 2 ghz macbook. It's a beast dude.

Around 1300, at the Macstore

I was going to spring for the black one, but I couldn't justify paying another 200 dollars for an extra 20 gigs in the hard drive. I'm only putting apps on it, not any actual DV video, so I don't need the huge hard drive (I rely heavily on externals.) The black one is hot though.
