This seemed like the best place to ask on studentfilms.com.

You can emulate Windows XP and open it in that. You can't natively open it in OSX though.

Sorry.

Yep. You'll need Virtual PC or a similar windows emulator.

Well then.
This development annoys me some what. A lot, actually.

I was trying to get Windows on my only PC that would even dream about running such a disaster.

So, I throw it in. Okay.
It asks me to throw in a previous version of Windows to prove I own it (this is the upgrade edition). Okay.
It makes me type in the serial number. Okay.
Wait. Back up. Several times repeating.
It just wouldn't accept my number... so, I decided to turn to "cracks" or "keygen's".

I figure that if MS ever came knocking at my door, I could avoid arrest by waiving my copy in their faces.
The keygen's are .exe files. There was no way I could work this it seems.
Then I just phoned up a friend and used her serial number.

Well... that was a lot of typing for something that didn't really need it, eh?

Oh, that.

I'm pretty sure that a full install version's serial number doesn't work with an upgrade version, and vice versa. There's also a difference between Home, Professional, and Corporate serials. The numbers aren't interchangable.

If you bought it, you can call Microsoft up and explain, and they can hook you up. I had to do this last week, because I changed a ton of stuff around in my system, and each time you change certain things, you're required to put in a new serial number. I ran out of activations, and hence had to call Microsoft and explain. They were more than accomodating. If you didn't buy it, borrow a full install disc from someone else. I don't really condone the latter, since it's piracy.

Also, make sure you obtain Windows XP professional, because Windows XP home is about as functional as a dull knife.

Whereas Windows XP professional is as functional as double-edged, razor-sharp knife with no handle. Sorry. Couldn't resist. Wink

C'mon TD, don't start. Seriously.

I honestly answered his question, no bias towards one way or the other, trying not to turn this into a mac vs. pc thread. Even though your comment is light hearted, someone's going to fire back, then the fanatics and fanboys crawl out of their holes, and all hell breaks loose. I refrained from making a joke, you should too, because for christ's sake it's been pretty quiet and (personal opinion) argument free lately.

Cool it, or I'll mark your post for moderation so that you can moderate it.

Well, I did finally manage to get my copy's serial working. I don't know, maybe it just didn't want to work before midnight? What do I know.
Eventually, it just started fuctioning. It made me happy--then I realized I had nothing to do on that PC.
It's 64 bit, but my video card is too low a calibur to do anything "l33t".

But I enjoyed Ti's knife comment.

If this turns into a Mac vs. Windows thread because of my joke I assure you that I will moderate the offender into the stone age. Fear not.

I don't think it will... mostly because this topic's null'd now.

Besides, if it did; they'd have to feel MY WRATH!

Which would be... someone else modding them.
