This is a commercial only released in Europe I believe. They took Gene Kelly's head and put it on the bodies of 2 dancers. Personally I love it, it blows me away, but i'm sure others will find it disrespectful or creepy to watch. I figure if Gene were alive he'd be able to do that himself, and his wife said he wouldn't have minded. Check it out HERE or type it in http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-video/Media/video/2005/01/27/golfgti.mov
(on a side note, some of you might recognize those dance moves from a guy named David Bernal, if youve never seen it check out the "Kollaboration 2001" video HERE) (on another side note, the song is done by "mint royale" but i dont think its been released)
they did this like 10 years ago, except it was Fred Astaire with a vacuum cleaner and it kicked the **** out of this pitiful attem,pt to incorporate Kelly into a corporate commercial

I disagree HDK, personally i thought that vacuum commercial was uninspired. At least in this one Gene Kelly isnt hawking the merchandise. In the Astaire one he danced with the thing. This one isnt much different, theyre still forcing a deceased personalilty to sell a product, i just thought it fit well with the marketing campaign. That and they did a decent job matching up the face.
Hey, does anyone know how they did all that? My friend told me that they took took the clip from the original film, and then animated the footage frame by frame. Anyone know for sure?
I dunno, after the first half of the commercial you couldn't even see his face it was sucha wide shot in the darkness, like in those horrible old films where u can obviously tell the difference between the stuntman and the actor

yea, some of the matchup gets a little rough. But as far as I can tell: I would guess that they reshot the entire sequence on a recreated set with the dancers. Then went into SITR and rotoscoped out Kelly's face and placed it over the actors heads. On some of the closeups you can see where the neck and shirt collar dont match up very well. For longer shots i would assume it was just a body double.
It actually looks like a damned decent job. The slight head jitters make the dancing that much weirder. Also, the rain was a nice touch too, it couldn't have been too easy to pull off. As for the first half, it was well lit and I could see it was Gene Kelly. It wasn't until the wideshots that I couldn't see the face, which is, you know, normal. Reminds me of those Levi's crazy legs commercials, only better. Awesome song too.
