Limewire is serious spyware, for one thing. When you install it, it installs a lot of files in places like your startup/shut down folder and system folder. It executes its own scripts and commands when you try to do other things. It will transfer information over the net without you even knowing it, and a firewall won't do a damn thing about it. Not to mention the program eats up a huge amount of bandwidth (as do most other decentralized sharing apps, but this one in particular eats more than usual). It's a resource hog and it's a sure way to get viruses, even if you're using a Mac. Stay away.

Oh, and by the way, I have responded to this topic under the assumption that you intend to use the sharing app for legal purposes. I and this site do not support nor condone illegal downloading and am therefore not helping or assisting you to do so in any way, shape, or form, without regard for or in denial of blah blah blah, heretofore, thus until, and in exceeding of, and not including nor excluding etc etc etc. Thank you.

I use an app called Little Snitch which alerts you if any app is sending info to the internet. You can block ports, IP address ranges, or an entire app from accessing the Internet. ...but I've never had any problems with spy/adware issues ever, yet.
