I thought this was interesting.

It reminds of a joke that Jay Leno told on THE TONIGHT SHOW once - that Columbus sailed to America, proclaiming that he had "discovered America". He then put some Native Americans on his ship and sailed back to Europe. When they reached Spain, the Native Americans got off the boat and said, "We have discovered Europe"!

No one laughed, but I thought it was funny.

That Jay Leno joke is funny!

But why does any other country have to monitor OUR elections?
Why should we monitor their elections unless there is threat that they get attacked by an outsider?
I don't mind the UN helping us out if we can't defend ourselves against an outside attack during our elections. But there's something very fishy about all of this.

although if you take a look at Florida in 2000, or the states where dead people voted, you can easily see why other nations would feel we were not up to the job. personally i hope they've got this under control now (though i heard something about democrat registrations being shredded in Nevada or somewhere)

Iran watching our elections? thats a bit odd. i'd prefer the UN pick a team or something.

Floridagate. That's why.

Although we should not have our elections be monitored, I am not surprised, considering that in the last election, Katherine Harris employed a firm DATABASE, a voting system with strong republican ties to remove 10000 African american voters in highly democratic counties. (173000 voters total were removed without any due process, notifacation, or legal recourse). I would be concerned too if a person--whose opponent (GORE) defeated him by over a half a million votes-- cheated his way to presidency in the most powerful nation in the world. Yeah, I would be really concerned.
