What do u guys think of him?
I notice that critics hate him but fans adore him.
In interviews he sounds like one of the most down to earth directors in hollywood.

I´m a Dogma and chasing amy fan.

I haven't seen Chasing Amy, which is considered to be his best work by many (well, the only one on Criterion...), but:

being down to earth does not automatically make him a worthwhile filmmaker. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy but I have been thoroughly unimpressed by what I've seen of his work.

I'll say this about him: I've never laughed so much as I did when I saw Clerks II. That, however, might just change next Friday when I finally get to see Borat.

I've said it before and 'll say it again; Chasing Amy: Best film of the 90's, but don't let the ****ty ass 90's bring this film down. Clerks was great too. It's nice to see someone actually make a film about their own problems and insecurities. Unfortunately everything hes done outside of Clerks and C.A. is absolute crap. He needs to make another film with just Jason Lee, and no one else from the askewniverse.

I enjoy his movies immensly. I think when he shines, he shines as a great humorist and an average artist.

Which is ok because I think he'd laugh if anyone seriously looked at him as an artists. I dont think he makes films to bear his undying soul.

Has anyone watched "An Evening with Kevin Smith?" It's a lot of cut footage of him doing a tour of colleges as a guest speaker answering questions and telling stories of his "Hollywood" experiences. The story he tells about Prince is hilarious. But whether you're a fan or not this is definitely worth checking out.

I thought the story about him writing superman, the giant spider, and wild wild west was the funniest
