Hey, really liked your Diaper Patrol segment. Some tips to offer though, would have to be that the car ride was to long. You had the right idea with the build up of it, but you could have made it more interesting in the car ride. Maybe he tries to drink coffee with his mask on and ends up spilling it, causing him to ditch the car. SO you guys take a cab or whatever. Just something to mix it up a bit, but other then that great ideas and so forth. Keep it up.

Not to be rude, but I feel the trailer "Backseat" doesn't go anywhere. It doesn't (to me) tell a story. I think a good trailer can tell "the story" without subtitles...
Just something to think about...
Best of luck!

I hear you, James, but I said "I think a good trailer can tell "the story" without subtitles..." Not "A good trailer shouldn't have subtitles..."
Below is a quote from a well know film maker describing his trailer (I don't really want to use his name here, but I think in much the same way, it makes sense to me). Although, I do have to agree with you about the music, it just doesn't fit.
quote:I also love trailers that don't depend on cheesy narration, so I just used lines from the film to infer story points. Most the classic and most famous trailers of the past don't rely on narration, but let the footage and editing drive the piece. By using just enough dialog lines from the film, it really does create even more of a tease and enticement.
Michael,
I see the trailer like this: Opening few seconds were good. I feel it would have worked better to have some quick cuts--as the driving progresses-- showing a sick murderous scene, just one second bits, they sort of explode with sound and violence (not really enough to make sense of it). Just so you have a sense of what is to come. Next I would've liked to see at lea st one face. Perhaps doing these quick cuts (hard contrast of emotions) while showing the girls eyes in the rear view... or so mething? Oh, also it's raining... the girl pulls off the highway to get gas. The shot is now from the perspective of the gas atte ndant. The girls exits the car and walks toward the gas station. She's upset about something, agitated etc... Through the fog ged up windows you can make out a figure leaning up in the back seat and the glimmer of a blade. The attendant says "what can I do for you miss" as she shakes the water from her hair "I need gas and I'm lost"......
"Swooosh Wham!!!" (hard sound FX to bla ck.... silence)
"Whack" blade slicing down the screen to reveal film tittle "BACKSEAT" (horrifying music bed) end.
Just a thought....... Just an opinion.

Although, perhaps you know the rest of the story in your mind (already have it worked out etc.). But I don't... I can't tell what's happening?
I think when people said they wanted more, they meant "more story". As is it's very hard to see what direction this trailer is going (and the film), campy, serious etc.. That's basically what I'm trying to point out to you. I believe the best "trailers" leave you with a sense of direction. I don't feel that it comes across in this.
Really, I'm just trying to be helpful and constructive, but It may not sound like it on-line.

quote:"Backseat" is a trailer based on a film to never be produced.
He calls it a 'trailer' so that's what I'm looking at it as being. I agree with you that the format is more along the lines of a teaser.
If he would have called it a 'teaser' I would have said... "I think it's too long. The pacing needs to be picked up to keep it interesting. It feels edited "around" the song..."
I'll let it rest now...
