To all composers, Guys and girls I need your assistance. I am trying to obtain as many diff. Phone Operator recordings as possible. If anyone knows how I can obtain different messages, (I want different area codes, languages, countries etc), I need to talk to you!
I need different messages as well, anything from "this line is busy" to "Please hang up and try your call again."
If you can obtain recordings or know where I can, your help would be greatly appreciated!
It is for an upcoming film I am working on, and since I have no budget I am sorry that all I can offer you is free advertising on my video.
Please only reply if you can help me Thanks

Take your microphone or camera, and pick up the phone and put it up to your microphone and/or camera (almost directly) I did this for my movie "Confessions" and it came out fine...
Creativity requires no effort..

I'm with Rachel - how do you want them? My in laws (in Japan) are currently looking for a number that doesn't work any more so I can call it and get the message. Cross your fingers.

Dr. Delarocker, hate to break it to you, but I don't think there are any numbers that don't work in Japan. They've all been taken up. There's like a billion people there!
Or is that China?

I'll dial a bunch of random numbers and record them if I can. I don't really have a good mic or anything with me, and I don't know much, but I'll see what I can do.
Do you want me to record this stuff via speakerphone?

whatever is easiest and at good recording for you. I thoguht a good way was just simply dial and put the earpiece to the microphone of your camera, then just transfer on comp and compress to mp3? I am not sure how the Doc did it, but the file was small, quality was decent, and the operator itself sounded creepy!
Ya whatever is easiest, I really appreciate this guys, it helps me out sooo sooo much!
Peace

I have ProTools, which is an audio recording and editing program (it's the industry standard for audio recording). I just put a Shure SM-57 (it costs about $100 - nothing fancy) up to the earpiece of the phone and recorded the message. Then I cut it to length and exported it as an AIFF file. I imported it into BIAS Peak and did the de-essing and pushed the gain up a bit, and then I used iTunes to convert it to mp3. Then I sent it. Took about 10 minutes.

I don't have any of that stuff..so I'll try contacting my brother (he works at a recording studio), and see if he can let me use a nice mic of his. Irony, I will get one recording of a speakerphone, and one of the earpiece up close if I can.
It may take a few days, though, because my brother is in New Jersey right now, and I'll have to get all the instructions over the phone.
Will that work?
