Since you are using windows os xp, most probably you got the WMMaker installed too. That's a capturing/editing software you can use to merge music, put text and transitions to make the video nice.

When using any editing software, it is made user friendly that it is self teaching and ease of use. And there are lots of variations when editing it.

Better make a plan -write down what you like to do before starting the edit. You might want to start with the video first as this takes the longest time.
