Hi there. I'm the guy who "directed" the monstrosity that is "Billy Takes a Dump." As this is getting some of the most dire reviews, I felt I should say a few words about it and shine a little light on the subject.
Let me start my saying that this was not intended to be a real film, with a real story. This was a school assignment. My production class was assigned to shoot a "process piece." That is, just shoot somebody doing some everyday thing. It was mere minutes before class and I still had nothing. I grabbed my friend Billy and dragged him into the bathroom where he staged his infamous dump.
As you can probably tell, there was no editing involved. As soon as we were finished, we bolted over to our classroom and handed it in. It was a half-assed school. assignment. I wasn't trying to make art here. I only addedd music and credits as a lark before I sent it out.
As for why it's on here, I put it here for my own amusement. I knew it would get dreadful reviews, and I knew I would laugh every time I saw somebody take it way too seriously. And it worked without fail.
I didn't count on it getting so many terrible reviews, though. Why is this movie so irresistable to people? It's not like the title is misleading or anything. Ironic how this fluke gets 20+ reviews while my "serious" films barely get touched. Sad, really.
Soon, I'm going to be submitting my final film, which I'm very proud of. I hope people will watch it, even though it isn't terrible and they can't post a bad review to make themselves feel better.

I dont understand if you knew it would get horrible reviews, why you would even put it up here.
Maybe this is just me, but after watching that piece, I have no interest in watching anything else of yours. If you create a bad rep for yourself, people usually dont give you a second chance, and thats just life.
I will give your "final" film a chance... But if it wasnt for this post you made, I would probably have seen your name, and moved right along.
I think it is bad because it does not demonstrate anything in filmmaking. Even on a "on-the-fly-last-minute-shoot" like that, you could at least demonstrate proper camera techniques. And idea wasnt even funny, and was over acted.
One last thing... You just basically let everyone know that you're a slacker and does not put any effort or thought into your work. People like that dont fly in this business, nor virtually any other. Secondly, your willingness to share the fact that you did this last minute with no effort, you dont seem to be ashamed; maybe even proud of the fact. This attitude of "who cares" might be "cool" and accepted among your peers, but I guarantee you, the real world will not think it's "cool". You'll be working at McDonalds before you can say "life flushed down the toilet."
Looking forward to see if you "redeem" yourself in your "final" film.

I agree on everything JASONvb stated. But there is one other thing. Your story sounds really fake. Maybe I'm not very trusting, but to me, it sounds like you made up a few quick details so people wouldn't come down so hard on you. Even a short film like that takes some time. I know you say you didn't edit it or anything, but I feel that you wouldn't have had enough time to tape before your class started.
I think it sounds lame. My best guess is that you filmed it just for fun, and it had nothing to do with a school project. I mean, who would turn in something like that?! I would get suspended for pulling a trick of that magnitude. It doesn't seem bad, but school systems can take little things the wrong way. I mean, the guy had his pants down on camera!
I'll be sure to watch your next movie, but I can tell you now: you have already begun the process of making your name less and less valuable to others. Putting Billy Takes a Dump on this website was a bad idea.

I will admit, this is one of the worst flicks I have watched on studentfilms. Like most people here, I take my self very serious when it comes to making films and reviewing them as well. This is a community where people come to learn about filmmaking and have an awesome opportunity to submit films they feel deserve to be seen. I still don't understand why you would submit a horrible film, then attempt to shine some light on and make good of it all. Well you didn't... and as far as saying
quote: Soon, I'm going to be submitting my final film, which I'm very proud of. I hope people will watch it, even though it isn't terrible and they can't post a bad review to make themselves feel better.
I think that's ****. If you have made a film that your proud of then submit it, but it won't be perfect.. there will be flaws, and these will be pointed out. How fair it is to say people only give bad reviews to make themselves feel better? Face it "Billy sucked", and it got bad reviews becaused it sucked, not because people needed to make themselves feel better. I just felt I needed to clear that up.
If you don't look I'll force you to _=_

Dude....dude!
What's wrong with you? Firstly, my story isn't made up, and you have absolutely no reason to think otherwise. You don't know me and you know nothing about me, and you have absolutely no reason to think that I'm a liar.
Secondly, I really couldn't care less if you believe me or not. I don't know who the hell you are, so don't believe me if it makes you feel good. But dude... why post about it?! What does that accomplish?! Besides making me feel like a jackass and making yourself look like a jerk. This is a filmmaking forum, pal. Why post about my moral character?
I realize I'm being a hypocrite by even responding to this, so after this post I'm letting it go. But seriously, dude. Keep all your opinions that don't have to do with filmmaking to yourself.
And hey...if you'd get suspended for having somebody with their pants down on camera, that's your problem. I didn't get suspended. My school's liberal enough to not act like a bunch of mormon choir boys.
I'll agree that it was a bad idea to post this film up this site. If I knew I'd get all these fanboy's panties in a twist, I wouldn't have bothered.
I get it. Nobody likes it. Can we just agree that it sucks and put it aside until I redeem myself with my next movie? I swear it'll knock your socks off.

Alright dude. You're right. I take it back and apologize.

Don't tell me about this forum, Desoto. You're a junior member. I respect you, but not that much. And my reply was related to film. Your movie. That "Billy Takes a Dump" piece. And you wouldn't have had to start this topic if your movie hadn't sucked so much.
I can't wait for my socks to be blown off by your next masterpiece.

Damn, I should post a movie about a guy taking a dump if it'll get me this much attention- I only got one response for my last post... I'll post two films, one about crapping and one good film, and at least I'll get viewers...

Holt sh** this is the best topic on this f****** web forum. First off. the nut who made the crap known as "Billy Takes a Dump" is the most arrogantly-ego driven moron to say anything on this forum so far....and I quote him:
quote: As for why it's on here, I put it here for my own amusement. I knew it would get dreadful reviews, and I knew I would laugh every time I saw somebody take it way too seriously. And it worked without fail.
What the chicken sh**?
And then this BS,
quote: It was mere minutes before class and I still had nothing. I grabbed my friend Billy and dragged him into the bathroom where he staged his infamous dump.
BULL-F******-SH**
No way in HELL DID you make this before class. Now I'm guessing you have about five minutes to go from class to class, right? So first...you leave your class and realize, "Oh no...I didn't do my projet. Crap" You grab your friend Billy & run to the bathroom. Then you film this piece of sh**. Five minutes? Hardy f****** har.
I've made a few films without scripts with my friends...and they turned out better than this...

Agreed. You can buy enough weed to get you high like...FOUR TIMES! (NOT PROMOTING DRUGS, STATING FACTS )
I would NEVER waste five bucks to have a POS like this on a webpage where thousands will view it a month. And why? For your own laughter at comments about it? Thats just you BSing because you thought you had some funny sh** you were submitting....but it failed miserably so you have to come up with some silly assed excuse about "projects" and "my own amusement" Bull.
Admit it. You thought you were submitting something funny...but it wasn't...
My favorite part of his post though is this:
quote: As you can probably tell, there was no editing involved.
No sh**. First off...you turned this in for a project supposedly...then you went home & edited in music. Then you submitted it?
Why the hell did you do such a sh**** editing job?
Thats it for me...I'm outta here like a herd of turtles.

Kyle, I must say, you never let me down when I read your posts. Every freaking time, I get a kick. You're like the "Andy Runey" of Studentfilms.com. We need more down to earth people like you on this site.

It's just so easy to be negative than positive!

I find it easier to be positive than negative. But I'm not afraid to disagree when I have a strong opinion. The guy who submitted Billy Takes a Dump needs to stop licking everyone's *sshole and just take the abuse he bent over for. If you're going to send a movie like Billy Takes a Dump to studentfilms, you don't need to explain yourself. You just need to walk to the bathroom, look in the mirror, look at your reflection, and say, "Wow! I am one worthless piece of dogSh*t." Anyway, to the guy who submitted the movie, I'm really not that harsh, but you don't need to explain yourself. You knew what was coming when you sent it. I bet even you would agree with me in saying that I could rub my own sh*t over a strip of celluloid film and THAT would be more interesting to watch.
