I’m working on a documentary about a group of people who where living using only stone age tools and equipment. I was just wondering if you know of any places that would be interested in showing something like this? Also, what is the price range for broadcast rights for a one hour piece?

Are you looking for money or exposure?

If you're looking for exposure, sumit it to as many different public access channels as you can find. They often have a network where they share programming.

If you're looking for money, good luck. I'd say institutions might be your best bet. Try selling it to college libraries or, like anthrapology departments. PBS would be great, but often is an 'old boys club' in the sense that it's tough to get in--let alone get money.

What ever you plan to do, try to get familiar with the pbs redbook guidelines. Non-profits and institutions are very picky about video standards and program lengths (way more so than the networks) and you gotta go though much red tape. Here's the link.

best luck

oh, and where do you live? In pre-budget crisis california, there was grant money through some cities to produce programming for public access. Ask at your cable access or cable company (often they have to fulfill a certain amount of comunity service programming).

And if you sell to institutions, you can ask 80-100 per tape. If you sell it privately (put an ad at the end of your documentary for people to email you), you can sell it for 25-30.
