Does anyone think ROBERT RODRIQUESZ, director of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, is good at executing a story. I think so but some critics don't and I would like some feedback on how it doesn't seem like he tells a story in his movies.

not at all. hes more of a cool action director. once upon a time was the only film hes done in which he tried to actually tell some sort of story, but it ended up being a muddled mess instead.

if youre looking for a witty signature, youre looking in the wrong place.

If you watch a Rodriguez film back to back with a film by Kurosawa, or Leone, you'll see why. Nothing much unfolds. For him, the plot is more just a medium to bridge action sequences. There's nothing wrong with that, though.

Yeah I wouldnt think of him as one of the great story tellers of film but he gets the job done. Most of his stuff (atleast thus far) just has'nt been complex. He likes things simple and I guess it shows.

On the otherhand there was a good bit of "story" in "The Faculty" and he handled that well. Plus I think we are going to start seeing it from him. The stories behind "Sin City" and "Princess of Mars" are pretty intensive. Atleast he is on the right track with "Sin" getting Frank Miller on board as co-writer.

I say specify your meaning.

Do you mean a deep story?
Becuase everything is a story, otherwise it would be random clips of explosions, guns, burping, and whatever else you can think of.

As far as executing a story, depends what you like. If you like shallow charcters caught in o Crap situations. Thumbs up, baby! Big Grin
