What up everyone? I just thought I'd drop a line as to my recently adopted project. A friend of mine was given a green light to shoot a behind-the-scenes documentary of a student film.
It's supposed to be a big thing because this is the same class that Tom Cherones produces work with. Tom will not be involved with this project though.
I don't know when we are supposed to be done but I know that we're going to have more of a full-fledge documentation than just "the making of...". We're going to document everything from writing, casting, technical production, to editing, reproduction, and marketing. I am very excited about it and now I have my plate completely full.
Current Projects:
This documentary! Asher Brown: Short drama Fall of Night: Feature Length suspense/horror ...and the Film Club to run!
That's cool, i've always wanted to document a low/no budget filmmaking crew. My questions to you are, what are you going to say about student filmmaking in your documentary? How do you make it interesting to people who aren't familar and don't care about the process of filmmaking itself? I've strugled with these questions myself and am curious with what angle you are aproaching the project.
best luck with all your projects.

Actually the idea for this is instuctional type of documentary for people who are interested in the knowledge behind the filmmaking process. It's planned to be shown as a tutorial for the AFC meetings on specific situations in filmmaking.
My target audience is going to be filmmakers so I think that answers your questions. But if I wanted to appeal to a broader audience I would not use "Dude, Where's My Scooter?" as a reference. Although I would try to make some humorous spots and whatnot.
I think a documentary should give the audience some sort of information.
That's cool. I didn't realize AFC was an organization (Alabama Film Club ?). What elese does your group do as activities? I ran the one at Chico, but we really only did a handfull of things. Even if people were interested, they weren't interested enough to get off their couch/barstool/whatever. Alas, we're a bunch of screwoffs.
