Okay, this may be normal, but It's not for me!!! I just bought a Canon XL1 (not xl1s) and I did a test run and it works fine, great picture and sound. I used the DV in/out port to upload on a iMac but the audio didn't transfer over to Final Cut... What's causeing this? I was recording in LP mode, haven't tried SP yet, I didn't mean to record in LP though
P.S When using headphones during playback the sound works, so It did record sound (rather nicely) on the miniDV tape. Just doesn't upload...
Also, does anyone know a board or just FAQ about the XL1, its mechanics, it features, and tips or tricks? Thanks
---I'm goin' pro ---But I'm goin' slow.

My only suggestion would be that you have a bad transfer cable. If you know that you recorded sound, yet it doesnt capture on your computer, then there is a problem in your transfer. I would say try another cable, and also check to see if in your settings that you are set up to record audio. Hope that give ya a start.

When you say DV in/out, do you mean firewire? You should be uploading via firewire. Anyway, if the sounds on your tape, then youv got audio. Congrats on the new cam. Shot anything in "Movie Mode" yet? You should like that. A nice 24p feel. Enjoy. R. Michael
Yes I mean Firewire, and the cable works fine with my other camera (JVC miniDV). Yeah I've shot stuff on the movie mode, I've also used 16:9, my JVC has a "classic movie" mode that gives the same basic feel.

make sure that when you log & capture, that you are capturing both Audio channels 1&2, as well as Video, or what will happen is that you will capture the video but not the sound.
this info is in the window when you log and capture.
