Actually, we don't allow you to link to other sites that have movies on them. Sorry!
We have this rule to reduce spamming and ultra-advertising that take away from the goal of the forums, which is to provide a forum for young filmmakers to grow and recieve advice.
If you'd like to join us, we would certainly enjoy your company!
I appreciate you explaining it to me kindly, but I can't help feeling that this is a question of money.
If I get it right, the makers of this site prefer for people to pay for their videos to be posted on the site, even though they can grow and get all the advice they need by posting a link and waiting for other people to comment in the forum and start a discussion which can even elaborate into a debate about film making philosophies in general.
Shutting down a discussion that is actually spamming and ultra advertising takes just about as long as shutting down my discussion, which i believe does not fulfill the above criteria. So my point is: You might want to consider letting those normal folks who just want another opinion on their work, get away with it, leave a bit of a grey zone for the rule.
Sorry, if this has been discussed in the past already and maybe I'm wrong. Also, sorry if my english is a bit uptight, I'm from Europe and wrote many essays a couple of weeks ago during final exams...
The truth is that alot of us support this site (myself included) and we send our films in at our own cost because it is seen and reviewed by ppl of this site. the forum, as Durdens aid, is for the filmmakers and members of this site and is used for discussion etc... if we have such spam problems that it affects the site, we would have to shut down the discussion in ways that would hurt this site and its members/community. As for it being about money, for me (i can't speak for everyone else though), it is. I pay money out of my own pocket so that other ppl can see my film for free (u included). I've put it on this site because all of the other filmmakers who i have learned so much from have their films on here too, for me to see and learn from. An endless string of ppl have helped me along the way and i would not be continuing to college and filmmaking if it weren't for them, but without support this site will suffer. I could have put my film on my site for free, but instead i put more money into putting the film on this site, than i did for the entire film. also, it is well known that for a site liek this, the cost to put a film up is one of the lowest around (the lowest ive ever seen for sure), this is because Chris and this site doesn't take advantage of us filmmakers, this site doesn't pay his bills, and he puts lots of time into it for us, hes gotten famous producers and film ppl to come onto the live chat to discuss questions with us, anjd without the protection from spam, there is no respect for the site and its purpose, its just a matter of giving and receiving, and if one exception is ever made (ive never seen one) the whole site will fall like communism, i hope this helps

He's absolutely right that it's a question of money, but not in the greedy respect. It's a question of money in the respect that posting links here robs the site of the very funds it needs to survive. No profit is made from this site, but that does not mean money does not play a role.
