So I'm filming my crappy parody based on Hamlet in a local park today...and all of a sudden news crews from three different local stations show up to interview us and cover our new movie. Pretty crazy. I had to go through the parks division to film at the park, so they must have told the film commission, and the film commission must have put out a press release.
It was strange, and I think I came off as really weird and goofy in my interviews, but oh well. Media coverage is media coverage. I'll try to post some clips if I'm able to tape it tonight.
I was kind of pissed in a way. As the media chooses to show up and cover a movie that's turning out pretty ****ty and that I'm not working very hard on. I mean, no costumes, hardly any props. Not much of a news story really, I think. OH WELL!

HAH! Well atleast they didn't show up at a time when your shooting a gun movie!
I think it'd be awesome for a news crew to come when I'm making a movie...I'd say hella dumb sh** just to f** with 'em...ya know...have a little fun. They ask, "What's your movie about?"
I'd be all like, "Well...it's about these three guys who rob a bank...and then they retreat back to the rendevous where cops are waiting!"
Then the lady reporter would be like, "Wow! It shows criminals always pay the price-"
And I'd be like, "I'm not finsished...the cops, instead of arresting 'em, make the criminals perform sodomy on eachother"
Then the reporter would be like, "Ugh..."
Yeah...that'd be awesome possum.

I'm not sure whether I would want media coverage on something I am filming or not. In a way, It would get the word out that you are a filmmaker, but there would probably be a downside to it. I'm trying to think...
Oh yeah, it would interrupt your shoot! I hate it when people interrupt. Especially when I'm pressed for time. And then people would expect some great masterpiece, and when it was just a dumb movie you shot because you were bored, there would be disappointment. Or they might not care. I don't know. I'm just waiting for someone else to respond and put everything into words that I cannot.

Press is good, no matter what. Heres a good example. These guys went to shoot a hitman movie. They are shooting in an alley, and a passer buy sees what looks t be two guys shooting another... yet the missed the dollie track, camera man, boom operator, various crew, ect... The call the cops, who come in guns drawn. The news picks it up, and arrives. They are one of the top stories. The coverage gets them contacts with some local production companies who volunteer equipment, and services.
All in all, it was good. Here is a link to a video clip of the news coverage on it. (note Wally (the Chinesse guy) being interviewed. He is actually handcuffed while thy are talking to him.) enjoy. http://media.rewindvideo.com/video/infiniti/bust/BigBust.rm

Someone once said "No publicity is bad publicity." Good point there, but remember to let the Police know you are filming with imitation weapons so they don't arrest you!

The same thing happened to us......only it was a mugging scene.........the guy that was geting jacked was running from some un known person(s)......but by the time it was all over with it looked like the cop that almost shot us was the one he was running from.....pretty funny.....but there was no news coverage. just a §hitload of cops....we heard like 18 cop cars coming for us then the one that confronted us saw what was really going on and called in "all units stand down" on the radio and all the sirens cut out at the same time. pretty crazy stuff
This'll also give you a sneak peak into my HAMLET project. Will I put it on the net? Probably. Will I advertise it here and at other movie boards? Not likely. It's a project made for my senior class, so it's full of jokes that other people wouldn't "get." That and it's not my best work technicial-wise. But if you're still interested it should be on my site in about a week.
DUDE! You stopped recording at the best part! That anchor was gonna start talking about Genetic Mutants!!! I can hear his line now..."X-Men is REAL! Well, not really...hah hah....I am sooo fired"
Yeah, that's pretty cool though that you were on TV.
