I don't know which ones are new...
So I watched Angel, and I really liked the music to it...and the whole thing was kinda creepy, reminded me of Jacob's Ladder...

I was kinda confused though...
I don't know?
Good stuff...keep it real homie.

that's good, it was supposed to be creepy. task achieved.

Personally, when i look back i don't get it really either...the guy who directed and came up with the concept reverted to "it's up for interpretation" bit. lol

The way i see it is that he's some sort of angel and was taking a stroll through earth...but we're very unfriendly, and he was needed back on heaven (the beach) for whatever reason.

The other new film was Death of a Salesman, but feel free to watch the other ones as well.

OH yah...the beach scene was REALLY cool!
I was wondering though...what the hell is that bright light? I mean, not in the movie, but where did you get it? That's a MAD bright light!!!

And I've seen some of your other work...
Can't remember what they were like though, I'll watch all of them later today...

Check out my craptastic movie that i did last year (if you want)...

AHHH!
Nevermind...my site has been removed for violating terms of service...
Don't know how...I pay for it and everything...

Stupid jerks.

Hey Cypher,
I see that you have your own domain name, and i used to have Murphmanstudios.com, but I haven't paid this year and so I put it onto Angelfire...and then I bought 200 megs from them...and for some reason it expired...

And I was wondering if for some ammount of money, I could become a subsidiary of your company. Just use some space on your site, and maybe a branch of your domain name (like Murphmanstudios.scope-films.com)...

I just thought that would be interesting...or it could be...

It's up to you...
Thanks

Hey,

thanks for the nice comments about my films. the bright light you speak of is a normal light in dominican that shines on the whole beach...but i turned the brightness/contrast up ALOT.

For the hosting, I wouldn't mind hosting you (if not lots of files, then maybe even free of charge. Do you have icq? we could talk about it there more freely (don't like public boards too much for this).

my icq UIN is 40401046. i suggest you install icq, www.icq.com great chat app (just in case you didnt know what it was)

Howdy,
I downloaded:
T2 - Deleted Scene, and I can tell you that NO, it's not a real deleted scene...simply because it's not Arnold Schwarzenegger. But other than that, it was pretty interesting, the one problem is the audio, music and effects are fine, but voices are a little weak. I don't know, the film work was okay, but it seems like from the movies I've seen, there's too much "Blaire Witch" movement going on. Kind of detracts from the overall movie. Still, well put together, I think your strongest field is the editing.

The Stranger, well this is just odd, haha. Just an excuse to get into a fight scene, which is fine by me (I have a movie with a stupid thing, fighting because a guy thought his soda was someone elses). Again, though, I'm not a fan of the filming, although some cool cuts were kind of cool (fast zoom under the tramp to show the stranger fall), and it's the editing that makes it all flow together. I liked the music selection too! Also, and this is just nit-picking, but I think that the "F-Word" is used for no reason. I realize there is tension but the F-bomb doesn't have to be dropped...even though probably that's how someone WOULD talk...but there isn't too much realism to this piece. Still, your editing shows through the most.

Next up, Vimy Ridge - Special Edition, same thing here with the camera work. I don't like the looooooooong, drawn out scenes (I can think of two, when the boys are walking and talking about how it was all in the past, there was ONE cut (first close, then half a minute later, further away), and then again when you were on the ground firing at the unseen enemy), but whatever, you're sticking up for Canada, so I'm in! haha...I take it you're Canadian, if so...which part? I'm in Alberta (as you can probably tell by my info beside my Post Count...speaking of which, I could probably just check that to find where you're from...). But yah, back to the video, the editing is really what I like about you. There is rarely a hitch in continuity, and that's good...

Those are all the ones I've gotten (plus Angel), and I can see your talent lies in the editing, and now I must ask you, what program do you use?

Hey,

I got your request to on icq...i added you to my list, but for some reason it didn't ask me to authorize you :/

I'm located just north of toronto, walking distance really. About a 40minute drive to cn-tower/sky-dome.

T2 wasn't really my project,i was there just to "digitize" it, do the effects and sounds. I personally don't think its that good.

Stranger: It was odd? Good. It wasn't supposed to make any sense whatsoever. ya, i got a new wide-angle lens for christmas and wanted to test it out indoors to see how much more it helps...and i can safely say...it makes it soo much better. The camera work, I prefer "loose" camera...i hate tripods...they are a hazard. Chances are you would sooner get hurt by a tripod than anything else...plus i don't like shots that are super steady. Only thing i wish I had was a steadycam.

Vimy - SE: I personally love long shots when there is movement in them (not tripod, though i would have prefered steady).

I feel that I am quite a good editor. Take a look at watch your back. I thought the footage was awful and i did the best i could. Turned out alright. Watch redfruit, i think that has some of my best editing to date. As to your question, all of my editing is done on Adobe Premiere 6.0 (I tried 6.5 at my school, and its not worth buying since i think 6.0 is better). Recently, many people have been commenting on my titles, and how they look very proffessional and cool...all i have to say is: My titles???? What about hte film itself???? heh

Can't wait for your other comments.

Hey, get your ass on ICQ...haha...this whole discussion board takes too long.

Anyhoo, I just downloaded Watch Your Back, and Death of a Salesmen, which I am going to watch and then write about...

Also, I saw on some of your beginnings you have your logo pop up and it's actually animated...what proggy did you use for that?

Be back with my impressions.

My Quicktime 6.0 is screwy and doesn't play Embedded movies, so I have been downloading them off your site, but Redfruit doesn't work, and that's the one I wanna see the most...

Anyhoo, I just watched "Watch Your Back"...

I can't say that the music video/montage type movies are my favorite, because they're not, I like when there's sound effects and voice like your other flicks. But again, it's definately your editing that shows through, my favorite part is when he's walking down a hall and he keeps fading in and out further and further down the hall. Also, people are right, you make VERY COOL titles, and hopefully you can teach me a few things about them...

Okay, now I'm going to watch Death of a Salesmen.

Death of a Salesmen, Wow. That was very VERY well done. This time, I actually enjoyed most of the filming, and again, it's the editing that shines through (I need to talk to you about some of the things you do on ICQ). There were a couple of stale shots (one or two, not bad at all, and they were only at the beginning) but the rest was very well done. It was very professional, and I bet you got a good mark on it. I thought the choice of music was PERFECT for this piece, what song was it? But yeah, good stuff, that was by far your best piece that I've seen, if only I could get Redfruit...

Sorry to disagree with Brandini; I didn't like Salesman as much. The editing tended to cut a bit suddenly, and in the middle of dialog. This is normally okay, especially with todays more agressive cutting, but here you crossed the 180 degree line of continuity often, and since the characters weren't well established (not your fault- it's an excerpt) it was confusing. Also, I think you tried a little too hard in some parts to get a "different" angle, for example when you cut to a shot from the stairway looking down on Willy.

I did like your use of the coffeepot as a prop to anchor the scene around; if anything you could have gone further with it. And your titles were well done; I see a lot of badly rendered text (I'm guilty of it myself) and those came out very clean and professional. The acting was also good; I think it needs some more carefully timed edits to bring it out, though. Sometimes the dialog seemed rushed.

I don't mean to be harsh- I have a lot of trouble pulling together close dialog scenes myself. And I don't mean your scene was bad either; it was well done, and I'm just offering some (hopefully) constructive criticism.

Keep on shooting...

Hey, as to a steadycam, you can make a handheld version of one by mounting your camera on a metal rod with a weight equal to your camera on the other end. Hold it vertically halfway between camera and weight, and the weight and perfect balance will stabilize the shot. To mount the camera, weld a bolt to the end of the dowel, or maybe if you can't weld, use a long bolt and fix it with strong stiff tape, like packing tape. As for the weight, maybe use a container of water, filled enough to exactly match the camera weight.

sorry, metal rod needs to be at least 2 feet but 3 is better- depends on weight of your camera

murdoch: that's allright, you can't please everyone Wink

The scene was rushed, even though in total it took 3 days to shoot everything (about 6 hours total). I personally am very upset with the ending...willy gets upset too quickly, but we didn't have time to refilm and finish it.

As for the steadycam: i don't really like building things...its just not me.
