i'm a student film maker living in Montana. I'm trying to send a hitchhiking suitcase from the Canadian border to the Mexican border all by itself. i'm just going to set it on the side of the road with a sign and wait for some one to pick it up and take it part of the way. I want to document it with disposable still cameras and several formats of video tape. the suitcase will also include a journal that people can write in and info about our web page where u can track its progress and a roll of duct tape for repairs. If you would like more info or are interested please visit our web site www.tdrproductions.com and click on the hitchhiking suitcase link or e-mail me at thet@tdrproductions.com.                                             PS. If you are or know someone or a company that might be interested in donating some video tapes or disposable cameras please e-mail me.
PPS. i'm looking for someone to help me, all u will need to do is receive the hitchhiking suitcase on the other end. so if you live near the Mexican border and would like to help pleas e-mail me.
PPPS what do you think will happen?

Well, while I believe people are inheritanly good, it only takes one dishonest person to steal your video camera and ruin the whole thing.
I did once watch a new reporter who hitch hicked across America with a camera in a bag. It was pretty doggone cool. Met some interesting people and one insane guy who freaked when he saw the camera and seriously acted as if he picked him up to kill him.
On the original thread someone said no one would pick up a suitcase. Truth is someone looking to steal something would (again this dosent look good for getting a video camera back). My buddies and I once (In Florida) caught a baby aligator. It was almost 4 feet long. We got an old suitcase and placed said gator inside, then drove to the hood. We got out (about 1am) and placed it on a street corner beneath a street lamp. We then drove to a lot across the street and waited. Not 5 minutes later a carload of some thuggy looking fellows pulls up. One jumps out and snatches the suitcase. It was gone in like 2 seconds. They take off down the road. Not half a block down the car begins to swerve and crashes into a bench. Five guys come flying out screaqming like little girls. Their flailing around with their arms in the air haulin A** down the street. The gator comes shooting out the open back door and takes off into some nearby brush (where a canal was I might add) They just kept running and never looked back. Ten minutes later the car was still siting there.
Ive never been so pissed I didnt have a camera. We tried it again once but I cant really talk about that as it involves a police oficer trying to return what he presumbed was somones missing suitcase. I burned the tape. Still the first time was one of the funniest damn things I have ever seen in my life. One day Im writing it itno a movie. R. Michael

Iâm not going to put a video camera in the suitcase just disposable still cameras and video tapes that you can use in you one camera if you have one.
then when we get the stories back we are going to take the best ones and reenact them, that combined with the stills and any footage we get back is what we are going to make the movie out of.

i think this is a pretty good idea, though i dont know if the case would make it without someone watching it from a reasonable distance. it would be pretty cool to see it work though. if you got the national news behind you (not an easy thing to do i imagine) i can see it happen, people would be looking for it that way. but, either way, good luck with this project.
side note: tizz, i remember that report too. it was pretty cool. i think he did it again not to long ago as well to see if the world of hitchikeing had changed any.
it is a big hard plastic brown Samsonite. i'm trying to write "The Hitchhiking Suitcase" on one side and pant a big Hitchhiker thumb on the other. what kind of things should i use to decorate it. i was thinking of spry pant for the thumb and nail polish and penmen markers for the letters. what do you suggest?

Sorry but I think the suit case is gonna get grabbed by some home land security gestapo types and then blown up in a secluded place because they'll think it's a bomb
