I'm going to be moving to LA, CA in a couple of years. Anyone go an inside scoop on the good apartment and pricing. I've been looking in to it and about 1500.00 seems the going rate for a decent place. Am I off. Is this too much or too little? I'm not sure how things are in Ca. Could someone help me out? Thanks
Oh, this is one of the places I was checking out. Not too sure if this is too expensive or what.
Yo man. I live in Brooklyn. And the prices of living are just about the same on the west coast. 1500 is pretty standard if you're schwinging it in a big city (ie, Hollywood or LA or even San Diego) but no so high if you can commute and live off of one of those. Best thing to look into is new apartment buildings that they're renovating, I pay 800 a month to live in Brooklyn because my building used to be a shoe factory and is now a apartment complex. Just look for that and ask if utilities are included. Then ask how much the lease is, and if you'll have to pay your security deposit up front or before you move out. Good luck.

I live in Sacramento, CA and my friends and I hope to move there next year. We have found that rent is about $500-$600 per room, meaning for a 4 bedroom, be looking at $2000. I'd definitely try to find a roomate or someone to go with because rooms can be a little bit cheaper, and things like internet/cable can be split. The guy above me mentioned basically most of what you need to know going in an apartment. Good luck.

when you're ready to go, check out west side rentals http://www.westsiderentals.com/. It's 60 bucks for 60 days of unlimited use, but this is the best/fastest way to find places--everyone uses it.
1500 for one person seems high to me. I'm couch surfing, looking for places in LA right now. The cheapest ones are 400 for a room and they go up to 1050 per room. Average room is about 600 and you can get single apartments for $850.

$1500 is a tad steep. 800-1000 is more like it for a 1 bed.
Westside rentals is good...but also just drive around the neighborhoods and call the #s on the "For Rent" signs. That's how I got all my apts out here.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I should have mentioned that I will be moving their with my girlfriend and we're looking at 2 bedroom apts. 1500.00 was for a 2 bedroom apartment. They look nice. I really just wanted to know about the neighborhoods and safety issues, nice features and such. Well it seems I'm on the right track and I'll check into that site Joren. I plan on going there either this summer or next to look for jobs and places to live.
I'm hoping to get an internship this summer tho!! *crosses fingers* Peace.
I really like my 2b/2ba in Hollywood. I pay $1,200/mo. The view sucks, but the location and quality of the apartment are great. Rent can change drastically in short time periods, though, so $1,500 could be a lot or a little by the time you get here. We should all have an L.A. networking thingy (Technical term) at some point. But not too soon, because my schedule sux for the next 2 months.
