As a fairly large community, we are a frequent target for spammers. I do my best to keep things in order, but I could really use your insight on what types of promotional messages you deem as "spam" and what types you actually see as useful.

For example, are the random festival/music video contest announcements something that you guys see as beneficial? I have always viewed those types of messages as merely clutter, but I don't want to keep deleting them if you guys find them beneficial.

Or what about the users who create an account just to make one post that says "Hey! Check out my new film/website!"

Sometimes spam is easily identifiable, other times it is not. So I could really use your insights on what you would like to see and what you would like me to delete.

Hmm... I'd say get rid of all of it.

Normally I'm always interested in whatever contest you're selling me but with those that find their way to Studentfilms, I always find there's a catch or it's just not worth my time.

Don't get rid of it on my account, but you have my vote.

I say "spam" is only a problem when it is any of the following:

- Completely unrelated to film. Contests are fine - especially since I tell people that they can post call for entries for contests on the forums. Anything that is related to film or filmmaking would qualify it as NOT spam.

- But anything even filmmaking related postings is considered SPAM by me if it is posted in multiple forum sections. One topic only is fine.
