Ya Know..I was thinkin...I was sitting in my room watching the Project Greenlight dvd, and thought it would be neat and fun to do something like that for studentfilms. A film fest. where everyone has the same script and directs it their own way. I think it would be exciting to see different interpretations of the same script. Ya think we can do something like that? Anyone else have comments?

I would definitely be very interested in doing something like that. I think someone once tried to coordinate something like that a long time ago. Obviously it never worked out. I don't think enough people submitted screeplays.

If ever such an event did take place, I would certainly be a part of it.

I would deffinately be interested in that too. Maybe we could have a script contest, and then from that decide what script everyone makes. But the thing is getting enough people submitting scripts. If this does happen though, I will submit a script.

i was for this idea the 2 or 3 times its come up, but I don't know if I still dig the idea of all of us doing the SAME script.....eys, it would be interesting, but I think watching 5 movies with the same script would get boring, and I don't think any grouo of people could decide on which script everyone should shoot.

so I suggest a film where just a genre (And maybe title) is given. There was a website called Filmfights.com that did this (I don't know if the site is still up. the link that worked 2 months ago doesn't work anymore, and I haven't been online for a long time so I don't know what happened to it) but anyways a title and genre was chosen and youd make a film accordingly to that.

anyway though, I'm for some fun ompetition. so any little film fest would be fun. the winning film could get like a free year of hosting on this site for their film.

This sounds keen. Except the assigning stuff to people.

I had the same idea, I stole it from Lars Von Trier, but I don't think it's ever been done in the U.S.

Anyway, the idea is to have one script, and have a group of people work on it, except each time they make it the roles get switched.

So let's say you get Spike Jonze, Aronofksy, Tony Scott, and Fincher. You have each one direct/d.p./edit/write, but they all have to use the same premise, from there, each one is only in charge of their job, and can't have input into anything else. so you end up with 4 movies in the end that could be completely different from what each one imagined, since they don't have complete control over any part.

i think using the same script is important because it keeps people from going off on tangents. directors could revise the script to fit their needs, and on top of that, the acting would be completely different.

it sounds like a cool idea. some people did try something like this called the Ultimate Student Filmproject.
you should talk to the people who tried to do this before.
i think one thing that you definitely should consider wen coming up with a scrip is length. i don't thing they limited it in the USFP. i would limit the scrip to 10 or 15 min max.
i would like to help, contact me if you want.

It is a cool concept if done correctly. I always wanted to see like 4 or 5 different directors do something like this. to see how different spike lees would be from oliver stones. cool stuff.

As far as doing it on here, I think the key is to make the script relitivly vague to where much more is left open to each persons indvidule interpritation. Just have everyone use the same basic outline of events, instead of the exact same script. Might work better and not be nearly as redundant.

Either way it's cool and I am interested.

I would participate.

One thing I think needs to be watched out for if everyone is working from the same script is that the script doesn't have anything featured in it that only some of us have access to. Having a scene on a boat might be great for those that have access to a boat, but it would exclude those without a boat from participating.

Sounds like an awesome idea.

We should definetly do it, but it needs to be thought out carefully. I agree with Kyle that we should just assign a title and a genre to each team. It would be very interesting to see how differently people will interept the title and create their story based on that interpretation.

Keep the ideas coming...

a list of certain dialogue, events, and perhaps a few props should be posted, leaving a lot still up to the director, but setting down a few guidelines.

Well, I was thinking maybe just have a script that made no sense whatsoever. On Project Greenlight they had the directors make a scene just from complete b.s. For example:

Person 1
Hey

Person 2
What?

Person 1
Hm?

Person 2
Did you hear that?

Person 1
What if I did?

Person 2
How many times will you say that?

Person 1
You're coming with me!

Person 2
Where?

Person 1
Wouldn't you like to know?

We don't have to do it like Project Greenlight, just thought that the scenes that they did were very interesting w/ complete crap. One director had a scene where he was in a mental instutition and it had alot of mood to it. I like the other ideas alot. Just wanted to add more to it to get what people thought.

Ladies and gentlemen...today we have dean martin and jerry lewis going to camp with us...Jerry tells the jokes, dean sings the songs and gets the girls...lets have a big round of applause!~~~Remember The Titans

I think that it'd be better if there were just guidelines. Now who would decide those guidelines?
