All of those "essay mills" claim to be for research purposes only, so that you can see what the essay might be like, but they know students just use them to turn in as their own work.

TD, I don't think everyone does that. I've read someone elses essay for research. I'm sure other people have as well. Sometimes it helps me to see things differently, sometimes it's just to see an example of how to go about writing on a certain topic.
These essay mill sites can be used for evil, but there are logical uses for them.

Wait, you've paid for and downloaded essays for research and not for evil? I'm surprised. Not that you would avoid evil, but that there are people who use them for good. From what I've gathered, their (almost) exclusive purpose is plagiarism. Did you read essays by friends, or actually purchase essays? I'm just curious about the whole thing.

And even more popular (apparently - I'd never use one) are websites where they farm out essay writing to students in need of a quick buck. Rich white kids can pay $10-15/page to have an essay thrown together, probably by a university student in China or India. There was a NYT article a couple weeks ago about the results of these essay farms. Sort of like hiring a Chinese proxy to level up your Warcraft character, but obviously significantly more problematic.
Can anyone vouch for the paper store? Think I might use it... for educational purposes of course.

Heh, I don't touch MMORPGs. Only the good old-fashioned single-player stuff (you know - with stories). I just found the concept of gold farms and level builder proxies to be fascinating. My friend's friend knows a guy who works at one of them in China...

I have several books that show example essays and dissect them to the reader, soley for the purpose of learning how to write. I have profs who put older essays outside of their office doors so that students can come and look through them to get an idea of what an "A" grade level paper looks like, the citations, the structure, the length, the size, the font even. It's not an entirely uncommon practice to me. I own Grand Theft Auto video games, but I've never commited a crime before. American Psycho is one of my favorite movies, but I've never put an axe through a fellow filmmakers face (although sometimes I'd like to ). People can legally own guns, its how they use them that they are responsible for, and eventually accountable for. Cause if you ask me there's no reason for common citizens having guns, yet it isn't causing us as big of a moral problem as it should.

Yeah, for one paper I had to write, I actually did buy a paper for reference (I took a gander at some of my friend's papers as well.) I wouldn't turn it in a paper that isn't mine, because thats not how I roll, but I did purchase a paper for reference. It was for my biology class, he didn't want more than four or five pages, and I was up to seven. I needed something to point me in the 'write direction' in terms of what to keep and what to trim. My paper was an A paper either way, but he was a douche and told us he wasnt going to read more than five pages per student.

He was a douche because he was a douche in general, or because he wouldn't read more than five pages per student?

I was assigned to write a paper about the frequency of plagiarism, so I downloaded someone's paper and turned it in as my own, but I forgot to put my own name on it and instead left someone else's name on it! As it turns out, I had misunderstood the topic: It wasn't about plagiarism, but situational irony, so I made an A!

Both. I mean, it was a lot of information to fit in 5 pages comfortably. He probably would've read it, but I understand his plight. I just wish he would've adjusted the assignment to fit the criteria.

Now that's comedy!
