I produced this at NYFA about 2 weeks ago. It's a youtube link so the quality isn't the best, but I still think it does it justice. It was a music video assignment, and the third film I made. The song is called, "BE(intro)" by Common Sense

BE(intro) - By Common Sense

Which NYFA location did you go to?
And did you use one of those Elmo machines to transfer the footage? That's what I used when I was in the program in '03.

Union Square location in NYC and I have no idea what an Elmo machine is, they did all the transferring in the lab and we received the footage as quicktime films which we then edited on final cut pro. Also, what did you think of the film?

Interesting concept, but it's been done many times before. I will say the editing was probably the best part for me. Watch out for your exposures, cause they're all over the place. Same thing for focus (although having gone through the program I do know exactly what equipment you're using and that it's almost impossible to keep focus on moving shots using an Arri-s).

Overall, good effort, keep at it, and let us know when you post a narrative piece.

Nothing Special, with no coherent story- especially coming from somebody who has criticized so many other people's films.

well nyspree, the project was to make a music video, which are films that allow for a lot of freedom and rarely have coherent storylines. consider spike jonze's "praise you" video or his video for "weapon of choice", which is one of the best music videos ever made. it seemed like you used the fact that it had "no coherent story" to defend your biting remark about my criticisms of other films...what else ya got?

Why do people get so offended when someone doesn't like their film? Take it with a grain of salt and move on to your next project.

To answer you M.Night I'm not offended by the fact that someone didn't like my film; I'm offended by the miniscule effort and subsequently miniscule help they gave when they criticized my film. The one thing they said was wrong with it was that it had no coherent storyline, when clearly none was intended. I would just like some effort in offering me some thoughts on my film. If I wanted non-sensical smug one-liners I would've asked Kyle for his thoughts.

and KtoI heres the new link to the video: BE(intro) - By Common Sense

I've seen a countless number of NYFA movies, and they all are pretty much like the one you made (no real story, licensed popular music, just a collection of shots, and very poorly lit/grainy film). I would like to see a film you make on your own time, and then I can offer you some constructive criticism. As for this one, I've seen it before.
