When I came to Studentfilms today I looked at the recent topics as I always do. Only two of those topics were actually something worthwhile. Four of them were forum spam from International Film School or whatever, and there were three duplicate post (I counted one of those as worthwhile). I know it's only been a day since these were all posted, but this has been becoming more and more frequent. It seems like whenever anyone does post something worthwhile it gets lost in the mess of spam and multiple posts.

I know that both Josh and Perry are busy, and i respect that, i think that it's great they're off doing stuff. Just looking at their recent posts though you can tell that they haven't been here enough to moderate. I think that if we want to make Studentfilms a better and more friendly environment we could use another mod or so.

i vote Helio as a mod, (only if he wants to help out), just cause lately ive noticed the same thing too and he's one of the guys who points it out (there's been a lot of film school spams on this site the last 5 months and its really ridicueleos)

I think this is great idea. Much like when I went film school. I learned great things about cameras. kekekeke

Stupidity aside, it is pretty bad coming on here and reading the spam. Definitely puts a damper on seeking help or posting interesting information. While I'm not an avid poster, I think this idea could really benefit the community.

I agree that a couple more mods wouldn't hurt. The spam is getting worse with their titles being harmless and more "human", so to speak.

Hopefully Chris takes a look at this topic and takes it into consideration.

Yes I agree we definitely need more moderators. I'm swamped with the show I'm cutting now and not to mention a newborn at home. Smile And I know Josh and Perry are swamped as well. We could use more help around here as they say. Smile

If anyone is seriously interested in becoming a moderator please private message me.

Just because we don't announce it, doesn't mean we're not doing our jobs. I still moderate quite a bit, I just don't have time to post much anymore.

I don't think we're saying that the current moderators no longer do their jobs - it just appears that the boards are a little bit harder to maintain due to the current increase in spam and repeat questions.

Besides, in my opinion part of being a moderator is to make your presence known so that it wards off troublemakers. I'm not trying to bash the moderators here...I've seen some excellent work and great moderating done, but life steps in sometimes as Chris mentioned and suddenly you just no longer have the time you used to.

Just a thought,

Kegan

I've decided to make Heliotrope, Kegan, and braininabox moderators. Smile Let's welcome them to their new role on the site.

And, by the way, where is Perry? I haven't seen him on the site in a while.

Congrats new mods-- this spam has bugged the hell out of me-- perhaps we should ban html embedded links-- I mean its one thing to say. "I love my school, have you looked into Chapman...UCLA...NYU" or please look at my film its on Youtube under "blahblahblah" but when they embed the link its almost always spam.

Of course, that's just my irritation talking.

mainly I;m referring to the filmschool in the Philippines I think most people are irritated by in so much as its multiple promotional posts made by mostly not real people. I'm pretty sure the "where are the moderators" thread was referring to these same posts. Posts in moderation don't bug me, but if every reply-- including those to questions that have no relevance to the topic link you to the same film school in the philipines it get irritating. You know?

Yeah, I've deleted a lot of those lately. Problem is that even when I suspend those users they just make new accounts and come right back. This is the internet - we can't just lock the door.
