I have this film I edited at home just for fun using old archive footage from the 50's(specifically captured from my videotape of "Atomic Café"). Anyway, the introductory sequence I use these films is quite good and may be eligible for a submission to this sight. I basically want to find out if I have to do anything in particular concerning the copyright on this footage before I send it. This sequence, by the way, is a music video of a dive trip on bikini atoll in the pacific. Would the extra footage from "Atomic Café" be a problem? Please let me know if any of you have had similar experiences with this kind of thing.

If you look in the FAQ section of the site, there is actually a section that covers copyright. I can't recall if it's simply directed towards music or if it covers video as well.

But the general consensus is that most likely, nobody will raise a fuss over a little student film, so it probably won't be a problem, especially if it's archive footage from the 50's (you might want to check that too, if it's archive footage, it may be copyright free).

BUT NOTE: Studentfilms.com assumes that all copyright issues have been cleared with the copyright owner, therefore cannot be held liable if legal issues should arise.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If the footage you obtained is classified as true archive footage then you should check to see if anyone owns a copyright on it, and contact them for permission to use it (or in this case, send it here for non-profit purpose).
