subliminal message: you need a celebrity (I.E. Jack Black) to make a good movie

oh that's right, I knew that, lol. So jack black was actually there? did you get to meet him? How do you land a job like that, because I'm trying really hard but can't seem to get in touch with the right people. Not necessarily editing, just anything . . . maybe I should PM you, huh? This is kind of off topic . . .

He was there - but I didn't talk to him as I wasn't working with him. How did I get this job? Short story? I started out assistant editing when I first moved out to Los Angeles in 2001 and worked for an editor who did a lot of big time music videos. He worked so much that he eventually had me doing changes on videos as he started new ones. Soon the woman who ran the facility liked what I was doing and I started to get no budget projects and I worked really hard until eventually I was getting enough paying projects that I could stop assistant editing. That was 5 years ago. Short story yes. Now you may be asking - how did I get the assistant editing gig? Well - when I was at Boston University I actually interned at Avid and worked for them for about a year after I left college. Armed with a ton of Avid knowledge (I even got certified to teach Avid) I drove out to Los Angeles and mailed out resusmes to every post house that I could find in the LA411. A month or so went by and I started calling people and calling people and calling people until on day...I called a place to see if they got my resume and they said all excitedly "come on in!" I came in - I talked to them and they were really impressed that I used to work for Avid...and I was hired. I later found out that their other assistant editor was literally fired that morning for throwing out some master tapes. This business is crazy - it's all about luck and timing sometimes.

wow, that was one of those things where the timing was just right! What I really want to do is work on set. At this point, I really don't care what it is. There's a couple of films coming around where I live. So, how should a film resume work? What low-life position should I apply for to get my feet wet and get to know people? It seems like they want people with experience to work films, but the thing is, how can I get experience if I never get in?
